11  Re: 50's B Movie Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by krissykat on: July 14, 2008 09:17:53 AM
I came home from getting a flat tire plugged Angry  to find both my packages from mamaedgar to cheer me up! Cheesy (Sorry if the pics are a little big, my laptop's not working, so I don't have any proper photo editing software.)

Everything together:

A super cute Frankensteiny purse in my favorite colour combination:

A crocheted Audrey II/Audrey Jr. pincushion. (In a terra cotta pot.)

Wist-inspired wall art and notecards from lino carvings she did. (With obligatory nosey cat shot.) Awesome - my family room is Horror/B-movie themed with a special emphasis on Frankenstein & Bride.

A cute little notebook decoupaged with movie posters.

And last but not least, a shrink plastic zombie pinup necklace. (Love! - I'm getting a zombie pinup tattoo next month.Smiley)

Thanks, mamaedgar, for the fabulous package, and for organizing!

12  Orchid wall hanging in Felting: Completed Projects by krissykat on: February 15, 2008 07:19:03 PM
This is a birthday gift for my mom. She's been keeping orchids for a couple of years now, and she absolutely loves them. She mentioned to me awhile ago that she didn't think one of her plants was going to bloom again.
This was a bit tough to photograph. It's just posted on my bulletin board for now. I'm not sure how to hang it.

It's needle felted and flat felted. It's kind of 3-D. The stem is round (pretty much a single green dread), and the leaf comes out from the stem and hangs down over the edge of the pot. It looks kind of flat in the pictures. I really wasn't going for anatomical accuracy or anything. I wanted to make it more detailed, but didn't really have time. I haven't had much felting time lately, so maybe I'm a little rusty.

Thanks for looking! Comments are always welcome. Smiley

13  Re: Two-headed kitten (If this sounds disturbing/offensive, please don't click.) in Felting: Completed Projects by krissykat on: January 02, 2008 01:15:06 PM
Thanks. Smiley

Update: I think he looks much better in his new home, which used to store my  zippers. I couldn't resist getting a bit silly and setting up a little "photo shoot".

The label is tea dyed. It reads "No.: 6709, Scientific name: Felis silvestris catus, Common name: House cat, Locality:(left blank), Notes: Diprosopus" (means craniofacial duplication).
Here's a link to the label, in case anyone might find it useful. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/krissy-kat/specimenlabels-1.jpg

14  Two-headed kitten - Update on pg. 2. (May be disturbing.) in Felting: Completed Projects by krissykat on: January 01, 2008 10:54:09 PM
A friend of mine has an odd fascination with two-headed kittens and insists that she wants one. It's a bit of a running joke between us. I'm a little afraid that she'll come home with a taxidermy or one in formaldehyde, so I made her a felted version for her birthday.

I decided not to make him really realistic, more like a stuffed toy. I think he's a little cuter that way. He's about the length of my hand, and a little hard to photograph.

He's all curled up because he'll be in a jar when I give him to her (mostly for protection from her real cats). I think I need a better jar, though.

Comments and questions are welcome. Smiley

I found a much better jar to house him, even if it's a little on the big side.

15  Ottoman slipcover - hiding drab vinyl with fab leopard print. in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by krissykat on: December 29, 2007 03:23:36 PM
I have this old ottoman that I inherited from a great aunt. It's in perfect condition, but the brown vinyl is ugly and horrible to the touch. I was afraid I'd ruin it if I tried to reupholster it, so I made a plush faux leopard fur slipcover.  It's not perfect, but I like it much better.

One with no flash. The fabric is a bit hard to photograph.

I wasn't happy with my first attempt, so I made it into a matching cat bed. It's not quite the same without the button, but I didn't think it would be nice to sleep on.

Plus a tissue box cover made from some of the scraps.

Comments and questions welcome. Smiley

16  He might be grey, but he's a darn snappy dresser. in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by krissykat on: December 23, 2007 03:58:17 PM
I found an old sketch of this little guy today and had an irresistible urge to do some non-Christmas crafting. He's made of cotton broadcloth that I painted with acrylics. I wanted him to be kind of lumpy and rough-looking, so I didn't clip the fabric around the curves, didn't fix any paint smudges, added some pencil lines. You can really only see the ones around his eyes in the pictures.

I just had to give him spats.

Comments are always appreciated. Smiley

17  Button earrings and cherry clips in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by krissykat on: December 21, 2007 02:37:49 PM
I needed a serious break from getting ready for Christmas, so I decided to make something for myself for a change.

The pistons are my absolute favorite.

There's nothing quite like sparkly cherries to cure a bad case of the bah humbugs.

18  Loads of Resin Pendants in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by krissykat on: December 11, 2007 09:00:59 AM
I was playing with resin this weekend. Some turned out great, some not so well. These are just a couple of my favorites.

In a "why didn't I think of this sooner" moment, plastic confetti sold to put in greeting cards. Plus blue cake decorating sugar, and a tonne of silver glitter. Definitely my favorite of the batch. I only have 2 molds this size, I'm definitely going to have to make more for my mom, aunt, grandma. Maybe I'll even get to keep one for myself.  Smiley

Just blue sugar and silver glitter, plus some silver star-shaped glitter.

The pics don't do them justice. They look positively frosty in person.

After seeing so many people do cool stuff with cake sprinkles, I had to try it for myself. Turned out better than I expected.

I put Hello Kitty stickers in a couple. I think they'll be Christmas gifts for my sister and cousin.

Thanks for looking. Smiley

19  Possibly the least functional hat ever crocheted? in Crochet: Completed Projects by krissykat on: December 05, 2007 07:34:06 AM
I sat down to make myself a new winter hat, but somehow wound up with this teeny little beret. It's not going to be much help when I go out in the snow, but I think it's kind of funny.

Part of me wants to wear it out with a black dress and a long cigarette holder, but I don't think I could pull it off. Wink

20  Flowers and foliage in Felting: Completed Projects by krissykat on: December 01, 2007 08:53:36 AM
The product of a sleepless night. I've been trying to do different things, step out of my "comfort zone", all that jazz. Apparently that means lilies and cloche hats...

Wet felted calla lily (lapel pin).

Simplified wet felted lily that I attached to a crocheted cloche.

Wet felted leaf on another crocheted hat. Much less dramatic.

A tiger lily, which will probably become an applique as well.

And a weird little wrist cuff, waiting for some snaps.

Comments welcome.  Smiley
