1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Business Name thread - Get opinions and ideas about names for your business! on: October 21, 2008 01:14:44 PM
So me and a two friends of mine are starting a small clothing business.
our aesthetic is quirky and vintage inspired. We have been using the name The Love Cult because it was the name of an old 1960's b movie horror a kind of grind house type which goes with our mood (we think)
Recently from an instructor of ours has been questioning this name and if it really fits our look, audience, and product. So i was hoping i could get some opinions on what you all think. for reference some sketches of our current line are at our gallery. i hope you can see it there has been some issues if you are on a slow computer or are not using firefox but we are trying to work that out.

thanks for your help!
I finally have a chance to work on some of the projects i started. i am excited about that being in SF for 4 days really kills your crafting time!
i sent my list and i am excited to get my partner's!
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: For a summer day w/ sketches and finished garments(lots of pictures) on: June 18, 2008 05:37:30 PM
Very pretty dresses and skirt!  You might be able to steam that bias slip back into shape or reshape it after washing it, then figure out a way to stabilize it (stay stitching, strips of interfacing or straight grain fabric, etc).  Hopefully you have some fun and fancy summer events to wear those dresses to!   Grin  Or, make your own event!
i wish that would work it just got way to stretched out but i will be able to turn it into a cami
 thank you both!
5  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The Completely Random Swap signups 06/13 - 06/23 on: June 16, 2008 07:43:09 PM

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / For a summer day w/ sketches and finished garments(lots of pictures) on: June 16, 2008 03:40:03 PM
So i was able to take some pictures today of my most recent projects granted they are modeled on a dress form that is not my size but it is the best i can do for now since i dont have anyone to take my picture until next week. I decided to water mark the pictures of the dresses since they are my designs and will be going in a portfolio i thought it was the best idea.
so to start in chronological order:
Principle of Fit Final
imagine these on a human

so this dress was designed as a final project for my class where the garment had to fit us. i used a polyester textured chiffon and a black lace. I made a slip for underneath in purple but forgot to stay stitch so it bagged out really bad and now it fits funny. so as a warning to everyone STAY STITCH anything cut on the bias. the dress is meant to be belted and it slips on over my head
A-Line skirt

So this is just a basic a line made out of a vintage fabric looks much better on

Last but not least
Tea Dress
i was thinking about tea parties when i named this one and i think the fabric fits

This one by far is my favorite. I bought the flower fabric a few months ago to make a dress and just got around to it. i love how it turned out and looks much better on me since it was made to fit me not the form. it is very springy and fun to wear. i am so happy i found a matching purple for the waist band and bodice lining. it has a centered zipper down the back and has a rolled hem.

Thank You for looking!
7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Re: SUMMER of 2008 GALLERY! on: June 13, 2008 06:34:37 PM

Revenge is pen and the sea gulls are silver ink

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: embroidered patches pricing questions on: June 13, 2008 05:12:25 PM
thank you for you input jefferson i have considered doing clothing but that is encroaching on the territory of another venture i have going with some classmates/ friends. i think i am going to go more for bags or apron type things  because i can charge more and it is not actual apparel which is not where i want to go with this. And i am definably trying to stay away from underpricing my work because i know that it hurts me and everyone else in the crafting community.
9  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: A Mushroom, owl, a boat and a leaf! lots of pictures! on: June 08, 2008 07:00:59 PM
sheenathank you! the cursive was a pain since i was using my own handwriting and i don't have the most legible/ proper cursive. i liked how it turned out though and now that i look at it i added the extra bump on the 'n' in 'on' but not in 'sailin' oops... oh well
10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: tattooed guitar on: June 07, 2008 10:14:12 PM
i love it! swallows are perfect for a guitar
Better yet ask around some guitar stores. You will probably get the best effect with air brush. I've never done air brush.
Good luck with your project. It's really cool!  Cool Cool Cool
i would have to agree with airbrush for the best effect but you would still have to seal it and if you have never airbrushed it takes a while to get the hang of for doing just basics let alone a bird...
