4  Re: A warm gift for a SAD time in Knitting: Completed Projects by bird nerd on: March 01, 2006 08:26:49 PM
I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. What a lovely gesture though.

I too have a bit of a sad story. My mums best friend had basically had cancer for as long as I knew her, about 8 years. Last year, it flared up badly and she had to go back into treatment. However, despite all her problems/complications, the doctor said she would recover fine and had several years left. I made her a toy kitty cat as her "celebration cat", as she had survived and everything was going to be okay. Unfortunately, the doctor was wrong and within 2 weeks she was seriously sick. She died a few months later. The kitty still sits on top of their tv Sad She was only 46. After she died, however, I made her daughter her own kitty and she has it in memory of her mum Smiley

5  Re: snake, snake, ooooh its a snake! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by bird nerd on: October 20, 2005 11:22:38 PM
Snakey is actually adapted from a pattern in a book - World of Knitted toys.

Seriously, it is the coolest book. There are heaps of neat patterns in there - I'm making my mum an eskimo Cheesy

Anyway, I basically just sorted out the colours into order and started knitting! there isn't any particular number of rows for any of them, I just decided as I went along SmileySmiley

Here are some more photos, with a better camera Smiley

6  What do you think these are worth?? (IMGS) in Get Product and Website Opinions by bird nerd on: October 18, 2005 04:09:05 PM
I've posted a few times on here, and fellow craftsters are so helpful and friendly, so I thought I would ask your opinions again.

For those that haven't seen me around before, my name is Belinda and I run a website called happy whale productions - http://freewebs.com/happywhaleproductions. I sell small, handmade stuffie whales in a variety of colours, from my home in New Zealand.

I have had an amount of international customers, and they have commented on how cheap the whales seem to be. Because international shipping is $4 USD, I like to keep my prices down. The whales are currently $8USD. However, I have also had some people say this is too low - it makes it seem like the whales are inferior products.

I'm in a bit of a muddle, as I fear that putting my prices up furthur will decrease sales. I have only sold one since the price went up (used to be $6, but after fees it began to get a bit pointless..) and I'm scared no one else will want to buy them - but I don't want people thinking they aren't made well!

I put a lot of effort into these whales, so I was just wondering some opinions on what you HONESTLY think they are worth - and whether this is too high or too low?

Thank you!

7  Occy the Happy Octopus in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by bird nerd on: August 29, 2005 12:14:54 AM
This is Occy!

Someone asked me to make a tutorial so I thought I would post it here. It's not too clear, but its pretty easy, so just ask if you want. Making him with felt would be cool!

Hopefully that made sense??

8  Re: messenger bag with gusset tutorial in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by bird nerd on: August 26, 2005 03:59:26 AM
my baggie!

hopefully this will work, I suck with pictures.

I based it sort of on the bags at sewing stars - I love them so much but I cannot afford them, as much as I want one, so I made one of my own....of course all credit should goto Teresa!

But Voila! My attempt Smiley

9  all black cat! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by bird nerd on: July 16, 2005 10:54:12 PM
As I have a thing for cats, and rugby, I decided to combine the two to make....all black cat!

He is made from cheap craft cotton, with hand embroidered face and shirt (which was made from drill cotton) supposed to look like an all black uniform....

Sorry about the blurry photo!

For those of you who are completely confused, the All Blacks are the New Zealand rugby team (a sport much like American Football, minus padding. Heres what they are supposed to look like...

(excuse the random photo.....it was surprising hard to find a half decent one with the uniform showing well!)
