1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Printed Plush!~ (x5!) on: August 04, 2017 03:37:00 AM
Hihihi, Craftster peeps, long time no visit. ^_^

I'm getting back in the Craftster loop and thought I'd share my newest obsession.... printed plush.  They are designed in photoshop and printed up (Spoonflower) and then sewn together. I thought I'd throw all my current dolls up in one post, rather than make a bunch of new posts. Smiley

So.. first up, Miss Harley Quinn, decked out in her Suicide Squad best;

(and I had to include a shot of her hair, I'm just rather stoked with it, hee).

And these guys are Steve and Danny from Hawaii Five-0

...and this is Sarah & Joel from the video game The Last of Us..

Each one is about 12inches tall, and has various faux furs for their hair. ^__^
Thanks for reading!~
2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / A Newt in the hand.. on: March 23, 2017 02:07:59 AM
..is worth two in the bush. No, wait. That's birds. Well, I'm sure he's worth a lot, anyway. Wink

Guess who saw Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them recently? That would be me. And guess who fell in love with Newt? Yep, also me.   I forgot how much I missed being immersed in the HP-verse.

Anyway! I do what I always do when I add another fictional character to my "adore" list; I plushify them!~

This time I decided to shrink him down a bit (must have been inspired by the Occamy) to fit into my hand. A palm-sized plush! He's about 6 inches when seated, and about 7.5 inches from head to toe.

Here he is, toward the end of his creation, just missing the top stitching on his coat, his suitcase and his ears.

(side note: why is it so hard trying to take a picture of yourself holding something? Stupid awkward angles.)

And this is once I added ears.....

And the coat & case....

So now he's ready to go and find some more friends to go in his suitcase!~
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / 2 Snapes are better than 1!~ on: March 08, 2017 07:45:20 PM
After seeing Fantastic Beasts recently, I've shifted into full-on Harry Potter mode again. My favourite character is Snape, so when I decided to play around and tweak some of my usual doll patterns, he was the perfect subject.

I always flop back and forth over what style appeals to me the most; super chibified or stylized realism. So... I did what I love to do; refuse to make a decision and craft both styles instead, because clearly two Snapes are better than one!~ Wink

This is Snape version 1:
He's 13inches, made of suedecloth and various fabrics (whatever had the right feel and draping properties in my stash cupboard). Faux fur for the hair and hand-painted eyes..

Oh, and a basic armature in his arms to allow him to be gently posed..

Annndd.. Snape version 2:
Super chibi! He's 13.5 inches, made of suedecloth and a variety of fleece fabrics. Faux fur hair -- which made me have to completely rework my head pattern because the bigger the head, the shorter the pile of the fur appears. I also gave him oversized individual fingers to go with the oversized feet and head. His eyes are needle felted; I usually do a darker colour of their eyes around the outside, but being black it kind of voided that idea..

Sorry about the photos -- black on black on black is surprisingly difficult to photograph. Tongue
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / mash-up / Cross-over fandom swap? on: January 21, 2017 12:59:41 PM
So I just had an idea and I'm not sure it's swappable but I thought it might be fun to do a mashup/cross over swap.

You could list like 10 different fandoms you're in (or characters, or whatever) and then your partner picks two and mashes 'em up. So maybe MLP + Harry Potter = A ponified version of Snape. Or The Hobbit + Sherlock could = Sherlock in a Smaug kigurumi. Or Final Fantasy + The Walking Dead = Zombified Squall, or Yuna dressed in the iconic sheriff's outfit. And so on..

This might work better with visual crafts, I suppose - dolls, painting, cross-stitch, thread painting, clay figures, etc.

 Crazy idea?
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / This isn't a democracy anymore.. on: December 25, 2016 10:47:42 PM
I'm in the progress of making a bunch of The Walking Dead plush dolls - Jesus was the first, Mr. Rick Grimes is the second -- and there's only 9 more to go!~

Rick is also in my faves list and this is my absolute favourite outfit of his -- whenever he wears this jacket, you know things (and stuff!) are about to go down.

Also, I have become addicted to making oversized zippers out of foam, I think there's something weirdly adorable about them. Almost as adorable as Rick's grumpy grump face!~ Tongue

Mr. Grimes' facial hair was a bit tricky to figure out. I was going to go full-savage Rick, and give him a beard not unlike Jesus', but I decided to go with the more-than-stubble-not-quite-full-beard look. Lots of layers of paint layer, with a generous dollop of grey, and I was actually happy with the outcome. Smiley Oh, and most importantly - I remembered to put the bullet hole in his pants! Tongue

He has the upper internal armature, too, for posey-fun-times, like here...where he seems to be having another meltdown...

And bonus;
Here he is trying to wrangle Christmas lights, and wishing everyone a happy holiday (well, I am at least) Cheesy

Oh, and apologies if these photos are very yellow - they look fine on my computer, but super yellow/orange saturated on my phone. :/
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / ..but my friends used to call me Jesus on: December 03, 2016 03:12:46 AM
I actually thought that was a really sad line. Implies all his friends are dead. :/  Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Anyway! If you understood the thread title, you can probably guess which character, from which show, has been doll-ified!

I don't know why they changed his name from Paul Monroe in the comics to Paul Rovia on the show, but ..eh. Whatever. I'll stick with Jesus.

I finally finished my Jesus mini ---which I'm only now realizing I haven't uploaded here yet, my bad -- and took a break from the tricksy little things to make, oh hey, another Jesus. ^_^ Let it be known; when I obsess about things/characters, I do it properly. Wink

This dude is fast becoming one of my favourites on The Walking Dead (so don't kill him off, Kirkman!) because he's like a super ninja badass with some lovely locks.  Might help that Tom Payne is awfully pretty -and British! (super combo, level up!)- but I'm sure it's mostly because of the ninjaness.

 ... Probably.

After working on a mini scale with suede, I forgot about the whole stretch aspect of fleece so this dude turned out a wee bit bigger than planned - about 14inches. Made of snuggly fleece fabrics --all the better to squish your feels into. He does have a real zipper and I crafted a zipper pull out of craft foam, along with his belt buckles.

He is made of all stash materials which I was super duper proud of myself for, and while I was tempted to buy a beanie and alter it, I am glad I decided to go with the all-fleece option in the end (although those little faux ribbing lines were a pain in the butt to trim the threads from).

I gave him an internal armature in his upper body (arms, neck) to allow for some interaction so can give walkers a roundhouse kick to the head. Or, y'know, sit on a shelf in interesting way and stuff..

I was going to make a Daryl and Rick to go with him (Jesus' first episode with the three of them together is my all time favourite episode) but I have run out of mid-brown fleece so I'm not sure whether to go dark brown for their hair or wait until I can hunt some down (who would have thought finding fleece in Summer in Australia would be a challenge? Tongue). I may actually get started on my newest obsession -- Harley Quinn -- next, just for something a little different...

Annnyway....
 / rambles.
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / The Walking Dead Art Dolls on: October 26, 2016 03:14:21 AM
Kind of a Spoiler Warning for the end of Season Six and the first episode of Season Seven of The Walking Dead!

I know not everyone gets to see it at the same time so I don't want to inadvertently ruin anything for anyone - even if it is entirely stylized and not realistic.
.
.
.
.

Okay, PSA over....

Now I am a Huge (note the capital H) fan of The Walking Dead. Ever since season six ended with the introduction of Negan, I started toying with the idea of making a few little art dolls. And little they turned out. I kept downsizing and downsizing my pattern because they just looked so flippin' cute being so small. They're 8inches / 20cm tall, with a good portion of that total coming from their noggins.

Initially I thought to make them simple, but then I just kept adding...and adding..and adding. Ha! The zippers are real, but the zipper pulls were wayyyy too big for them (one was as big as Michonne's whole vest) so I made teeny tiny ones out of craft foam. And why make plain shoes when you can give them itty bitty laces? With clay soles and added heels? And pfft to painting on Daryl's wings - where's the fun in that? Of course you can make real applique wings that are only a couple centimetres big. Suuure, self. Sounds like fun. Tongue

Eyes have been painted and the facial hair is laid on by hand (because I'm crazy). I wasn't happy with the painting entirely, but I've recently purchased some tiny nail brushes so I can --hopefully-- get cleaner lines on my next wee faces.

..wow I ramble a lot.

Anyway, I finally finished them the day 7x01 aired and to be honest that episode had me wishing I had not made Negan.  Cry (Still not over it) But since I did, I figured I may as well put him to use and re-enact a few of the more tame scenes.

Individual shots:

Daryl Dixon

(bonus all important wing shot!)

Rick Grimes

Negan (& Lucille)

Michonne

(And bonus Richonne shot)

(apologies for the watermarks, I tagged them for uploading to other social media sites and forgot to save the unwatermarked versions. derp!)

Oh, oh! I forgot - you can totally tell from the photographs, but they all have an internal armature so they can be posed (because why display when you can play? Tongue)

And it's sort of hard to tell the scale of them, so here's a Work-in-progress shot of Michonne for an idea of how big (or small) they are.

Thanks for clicking! ..and for reading this far!  Kiss
