11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / framing cross-stitch???? on: October 26, 2005 10:37:12 AM
I've been into embroidery for a long time, but I'm a newbie when it comes to cross-stitching.  Months ago I started a reproduction sampler for my Mom for Christmas, and I'm nearing it's completion.  (THANK GOD!)  Anyway, I have no clue how to go about framing it - should I take it to a frame shop to have it professionally done, or is it something relatively simple that a crafty person like myself could pull off?  I've invested so much time on the sampler that I don't want to skimp on the framing. . . any tips and suggestions for framing cross-stitched pieces would be appreciated immensely!
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / bridal-themed pillowcase on: September 25, 2005 10:26:35 AM
I decided to embroider a special pillowcase to include as part of a bridal shower gift for one of my friends that is getting married on December 30.  I basically used my red iron-on transfer pencil to draw wedding-related items and I used the banner from The Stitch-It Kit.  (The "C" and the "M" inside the hearts represent the first initial of the bride and groom's first names.)

(I'm not very good at posting photos yet - sorry for the poor quality and size of the image!)

And here's a close up of a small portion of it.

I just thought I'd share my latest creation.
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone have Aunt Martha's 3772 "Antique Cars". . . on: September 20, 2005 06:10:26 AM
I saw it on the Colonial Patterns website, but I can't seem to find it in any of my local retail stores.  If anyone has it, could you please tell me if the transfers include a Ford Model A?  My dad is in the process of restoring one (one of his big lifelong desires!) and I thought it would be cool to embroider him something for Christmas, but I didn't want to order the transfer set if it didn't include his particular car.  All of the pictures I've found on the web aren't detailed enough to show the full contents of the transfer package.  Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out with this one!   Smiley
14  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / a dozen felt donuts on: September 11, 2005 04:13:13 PM
I was totally inspired a few months ago when I saw a tutorial on here for felt donuts.  I knew they would make the perfect gift for one of my old college friends that was donut obsessed.  (Now it's going to be hard to wait until Christmas to send these bad boys!)  I even got an unused donut box from a local grocery store to present them in.  Here's my final result!  They were completely addictive to make!  YUMMY!!!!
(Close up of the bugle bead "sprinkles" I had to sew on by hand. . . )

In the box. . .

And finally displayed on my cake plate!

15  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Dog tired pillowcase (darling dachshunds) on: July 30, 2005 01:36:42 PM
Here's a pillowcase I embroidered using the "Darling Dachshunds" set of transfers and the banner from the Stitch-It Kit.  Now I just need to make one with cats that says "cat nap" to co-ordinate with it.   Smiley

Some close-ups. ..

16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Hand embroidered rose gloves on: July 24, 2005 10:45:17 PM
I took some very inexpensive gloves (the stretchy kind that aren't particularly warm) and gave them a face lift with some free-hand embroidery using pearl cotton.  Here's the final result on an off-white pair and a charcoal grey pair.

17  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Insanely furry white kitty on: July 24, 2005 10:34:11 PM
I've been having a great time making plush kitty cats, but this one is a hairy beast!   Smiley

Here's a little cow I crafted out of felt.  Just thought I'd share!

19  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Beauty Sleep Pillowcase on: July 24, 2005 10:29:07 PM
Not at all original. . . but I fell in love with the "Beauty Sleep" pillowcase that was in the book with the Stitch-It Kit.  Here's my final product:

20  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Monkey Love t-shirt on: July 24, 2005 10:17:36 PM
I've seen so many cute posts on here of things people have embroidered for children using the Monkey Love transfers. . . but I'm a big monkey-loving kid at heart, so here's the t-shirt I embroidered for myself.  I tried to restrain myself and went for the subtle look of a single, dangling monkey from the shoulder.
