791  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re:what kind of sewing machine/serger do you have? on: February 22, 2004 11:46:20 AM
I have a New Home machine (I think their new name is Janome) and I love it. They are pretty well priced,  and I got a discount for being a student aswell.  There is a little shop downtown that specializes in that brand, and they were much cheaper then chain stores like Walmart, joannes, etc.

I got a serger by the same brand, but I love my machine much more. Your friend is right- if you start sewing alot, you're probably going to want a serger eventually. But, I wouldn't go for one instead of a regular machine. The tension on sergers is a little tricky for me, and I think a sewing machine is much more versatile.

Good luck on year search!

793  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: PORN on: February 11, 2004 04:19:38 PM
My friend Nick and I were going to cut up porn and make decupaged boxes with them for Christmas gifts [or maybe valentines Day!]
But alas, he didn't want to give me all of his mags. Boys will be boys...
794  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re:need ideas for bags on: February 10, 2004 06:09:17 PM
I made a purse as a gift this weekend, and I sewed her initial on one side, and appliqued a star on the other with a scarp of lining fabric. Good luck!
795  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re:ZipperRama on: February 10, 2004 05:59:40 PM
i scored a bunch of zippers at the thriftstore and thought about making a bag just of zippers. I think if I just sewed about 12 of them long sides together and sewed up the ends, it could be interesting..
Maybe I should try it.
796  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / crackle paint.. oh how i despise thee! on: February 09, 2004 09:33:11 PM
I love love love how your box turned out.. It looks perfectly aged.
I've been having issues with my crackle paint recently.  I bought 2 different brands of product, but the cracks are just turning out too small for my liking. Maybe I'm just too picky.

your tutorial is great! I made a bag similar to that from a little girls pattern from Simplicity, but I like your dimensions much better! I must have made this bag for every little girl (and big girl  Cheesy ) I know in the last two weeks.
