1  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Beginner needs help making bath tea bags on: November 14, 2008 11:03:10 AM
Hi, Im trying to make some herbal tea bags for the bath. I used a recipe with green tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves but to be honest it smells like a cross between cake/curry and once in the water the smell is too delicate.

Im now thinking about making a more floral smelling one, have you got any recipes? Is it true that for a chamomile/lavender recipe I can just use chamomile and lavender tea or would I get better results with essential oils?

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Chair makeover on: November 05, 2008 06:39:23 AM

Im a uni student and we always get stuck with really nasty furniture in our rooms, this year my desk chair was a horrible flaking brown thing with a nasty scratchy stained cream cushion cover so I sanded, painted and re-upholstered it! What do you think?

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Japanese valentines day on: January 30, 2008 05:30:51 PM
Ok so I have an idea for valentines day for the boyface but am struggling to get it off the ground, I thought you lovely ladies (and guys!) could help?

For Valentines day I am planning to take my boyfriend to a Japanese restaurant he's been dying to go to for ages, so I thought I'd make a whole Japanese inspired gift, I plan to decorate a box to look like an airmail package, and have a 'voucher' for the meal out and another for a shiatsu massage, Im also going to have a go at making some fortune cookies (which are technically Japanese!) but then I've got stuck!! I don't know what else to do! I've made 'sushi' cakes before and given him a book about learning japanese, and chopsticks, and a J-pop mix cd, and even Japanese beer... so I'm kind of running out of ideas!! Please help!

4  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Anyone have a copy of Easy Living christmas special? on: December 02, 2007 02:33:26 PM
Hi! This is a long shot but I am desperate! I was reading a copy of easy living someone had left on the train, and in the christmas special magazine there was a website address I meant to write down but forgot to! It was on a page which was showing ways to wrap gifts, and it was for a a gift that had been wrapped with a plaster cameo on it, like the ones on brooches! It was the website for plaster cameo that I really wanted to get hold of! If anyone has a copy, could you have a look for me?! Thanks xxxx
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Newspaper article on: August 16, 2007 06:11:48 AM

Im writing an article for my student newspaper about the fall 2007 fashion trends, one of which is huge, chunky scarves! If you want to check out these scarves, try this link: http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2007/fall/main/europe/womenrunway/gilesdeacon/#

In my article, I am trying to encourage people to knit their own huge scarf creations, I want to write some fairly basic 'how to knit' instructions, but being fairly new to knitting Im finding this pretty daunting! I emailed debbie stoller for permission to reprint her instructions, but sadly that isn't possible. Can any of you guys help me with some basic how-to instructions, or maybe any easy knitting methods? I would obviously give credit in the article for any help I receive!

Thanks x

8  COOKING / Dessert / Bannana bread! on: January 21, 2007 05:14:18 PM
Recently I've become a bit of a banana bread monster and I bake it every week, so i thought i'd share the recipe!

3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
(optional) Mixed fruits- I use saltanas, raisins and dried citrus peel.
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cup of flour
No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350F. With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla.Add the cinnamon. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour, mix then fold in the mixed fruit. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

And here's a picture of my bread

And me displaying it beautifully:
