1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Lemonade-short sleeved cardigan on: July 08, 2007 10:31:35 AM

Yarn: Filatura di Crosa Elena (100% mercerized Mako Egyptian Cotton; 99yds [90 m]/50g) 9 balls. This yarn is discontinued.
Needles:US E/4 crochet hook for provisional cast on.
US 3 needles
US 3 circular 32inch

Lemonade was my first attempt at having a pattern published.  I missed the deadline to submit to Knitty, so submitted to Magknits instead.  Sadly, my pattern was not picked to be included in the July issue.  I have the pattern posted on my blog if anyone in interested in knitting it.  You can alternately send me a PM with your email address (I promise it will not be used for personal gain or sold to spammers) and I will send you the word version along with the charts and schematics.  Please let me know if you notice anything that seems strange, as it is my first attempt at sizing up a pattern.

As always comments and criticisms welcome! (especially constructive criticism as I am just beginning to write patterns!)

Thanks so much!
2  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Interweave Knits lace nightie on: May 17, 2007 01:32:31 PM
A friend and I talked about starting KAL for the Lace Nightie from Interweave Knits.
Would anyone else would like to join us? She even made this cute button.

I am planning to use 4ply cashmere from PlumKnits instead of the bamboo yarn called for in the pattern.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Holding up the dreadlocks on: March 16, 2007 08:37:18 AM
So my cousin calls my husband yesterday and asks if I can knit him something to hold up his dreads.  He lives in Florida and works in an orchid greenhouse and he needs to keep the dreads off his neck so he does not have a heat stroke.  Does anyone have any pattern suggestions? Thanks a bunch!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sunshine! on: January 30, 2007 04:16:39 PM
This challenge came at a perfect time for me. I have been wanting to try my hand at designing a sweater and this was just the motivation I needed. It took just under three weeks to knit, and would have been finished sooner if I did not have to reknit all the details (cuffs, collar, neckline, BO at bottom edge...) Overall I am very pleased. I have had it on all day- and even had a stranger ask me where I bought it (a first for me!).

I have posted more pice on my blog http://auntieamandaknits.blogspot.com/2007/01/one-stitch-to-rule-them-all.html
Yarn:Caron Simply Soft (3 skeins) 315 yds per skein, color soft yellow (can't beat a $6 sweater!)
Needles (US sizes): sz. 6 circs, sz. 5 circs and dpn, sz. 10.5 circs
Pattern: my own top down raglan http://auntieamandaknits.blogspot.com/2007/02/sunshine.html
Notions: 4 buttons, stitch markers, yarn needle

I hope ya'll enjoy! Good luck to all that enter the challenge! It is so cool to see all the different ideas ya'll are coming up with. A big thanks to Lothruin for organizing all this! Kiss

5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / First handspun ever! on: December 09, 2006 10:13:10 AM
I have been admiring all the lovely handspun ya'll are spinning for months, assuring myself that I do not need another hobby. However, a few weeks ago I could resist no longer and purchased a Louet top whorl spindle and learn to spin kit.  I now see what all the fuss is about!  I have no idea what the roving was (as it came in the kit), but it was very easy to spin. I spun 2 singles, wound the singles into balls, then plied them together.  My only problem was that the singles wanted to coil back on themselves as I was plying. I ended up with about 65yds. I thought I would post my first attempt and see if ya'll could offer any criticism or advice. Thanks for all the inspiration!
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / charting help on: June 07, 2006 03:54:49 PM
I am knitting a NY Yankees themed baby blanket for my pregnant sister. I have a great pic of the NY logo that I am planning to knit (intarsia) in the center, however, I am having problems with charting the NY.
I printed the logo, then I printed knitters graph paper over the top of the logo. What do I do about the squares on the graph that are only half or partially filled, especially on curved or pointy sections? I am at a loss...please help as the baby shower is in two weeks (yes, I am a horrible procrastinator!)
Thanks in advance!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / I need yarn suggestions on: May 10, 2006 09:38:56 AM
I have looked and looked but maybe I am just missing it...here is my problem...
My sister is finally pregnant after years of trying, since I always knit blankets for the new babes in my family I thought I would try my hand at a doubleknit baby blanket for little Nicolas (hope I spelled the little guy's name right). My sister and BIL are HUGE NY Yankees fans so I want to knit the blanket with the Yankees 'NY' logo in the middle. I want the yarn to be yankees colors, my sister is allergic to wool so natural fibers are out of the question...I also want the blanket to be machine washable, but not pill...oh yeah, it also needs to be DK weight so I don't squish my poor little nephew with a blankie that weighs a ton...
Can anyone out there suggest something? She is due in August, and time is ticking my friends! She already knows what I am planning and she and her husband are both thrilled! Please help...thanks in advance!
