11  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Bento box help? on: January 01, 2009 04:50:01 PM

Here is a site that lists bento retailers that are willing to ship online as well.

Also try here:

As for me, I don't have any spare boxes right now, but I am planning on making a trip to the market in a few weeks.  Send me a message if you are interested in possibly swapping and I can let you know when I go shopping and if I can get anything worthwhile at a reasonable price for you.  I don't want to plan a swap until I know I can get something nice for you.

I also really love Just Bento.  www.justbento.com

She has amazing pictures and is more focused on bentos for adults.

I am going to check my inventory to see what I have.  I do have some that I think are too kiddy for me.  I will post pictures in my flickr account and we can talk about swapping or something.  Making you pay for things doesn't seem like the craftster spirit.

What kind of bento boxes are you guys looking for?  If you can wait for me to find time to go to this market that's kinda far from me, I might be able to pick ones up for you both.  At the place I'm thinking of, they only cost a few dollars each.

This place has some cute stuff for pretty cheap:

I know that there was a time when you could get Hello Kitty bentos at Dollar Tree stores, but I doubt they still have them.

Another option is swapping.  There is a Bento Swap group on Flickr where you can swap bento items.  There were even times when I've swapped non-bento stuff for bento things simpy based on what the person likes or can't find where they live.

Yum, those pelemi sound great!  Thanks so much!

I know what you mean.  I've gotten a few butchers to look at me a little funny when I ask for stuff.  I just don't get it though, is asking for bones to make stock with that uncommon now a days?  Oh well, the nice thing is that I often get them either really cheap or free.  There seems to be a movement towards "nose to tail" eating, so maybe that means that butchers are going to start carrying more exciting options.

Wanna share that pelmeni recipe?  You've gotten me pretty curious.

Oh, and I am going to try to get some new offal to try this weekend.  I'll post back here with my results!
18  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Chinese Chicken and Veggies Recipe? on: April 03, 2008 06:13:35 AM
I love to get chicken and mixed vegetables from my local chinese place.  It has a nice thick clear-ish sauce and the veggies are crisp while the chicken is tender.  I need to start restricting salt in my diet, so I am trying to find a way to make something like this at home so I can control what goes into it a little better.  I'm sure cornstarch would be involved, but I'm not sure when to put it in?  Before or after the veggies are simmered in the broth?

If anyone has a recipe they could share, or suggestions on how to make it, I would really appreciate it!

WOW!  Seriously, WOW!  Does it breathe okay when you wear it?  Does it make a lovely crinkly noise?

What an amazing idea!

I would make it a point to wear that thing out in the rain. Smiley

I think the funniest thing (or maybe the creepiest thing) is that someone actually had these photos scanned so that avatars could be made from them.  I dunno about other people, but I got rid of my shame (in the form in New Kids on the Block posters) a long time ago.  Wink
