3  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Homemade body butter and beeswax lip balm!! TUTES!! on: October 22, 2015 04:25:31 PM
So whipped up some home made bees wax lip balm and body butter this afternoon. This was my 1st time doin this and it came out pretty well. The lip balm was simple.

1oz beeswax
1oz coconut oil
1oz sweet almond oils

Melt it all together. You can do that in a double boiler but I didn't want to put the wax in mine so I heated it up in a Pyrex dish in the microwave. Took about 2 mins. If you do this please be careful bc the Pyrex gets really hot. Once it's all melted I added a few drops of eucalyptus EO and lemon EO as well as a small dash of vitamin E. I then stirred in about 1TB spoon of Shea butter at the end just for the added benefit if Shea butter but there is no need for this. Then I poured it onto my containers. It makes quite a bit so I was scrambling to to find stuff lol. If you want to make more or less the ratio of oils to beeswax is 2:1. Even without the EOs or vitamin E this lip balm woulf feel amazing!!!

The body butter was simple as well.

1/4c Shea butter
1/4c coconut oil
2TB of liquid oil (i.e. Sweet almond oil, jojoba oil.....)
*i used sweet almond oil bc I'm obsessed*
EOs of choice

Melt oils together. (I did mine in a sauce pan over low medium heat.) Once oils are melted together put in a bowl and place in freezer so it become more of solid but you don't want it too hard or frozen. (Mine was hard around the edges and top but the middle was gooey and this worked well.) Once cooled and somewhat solidified, add your EOs then whip it. I used a hand mixer with a wisk attachments to whip it up! If you want you can use a dash of vitamin E but not necessary (I'm obsessed with this too!) The EOs I used were lemon, jasmine absolute, and a touch of Texas cedarwood. I don't think I will use the jasmine in here again bc it took way more than I thought for such a small batch and I can still barely smell it. It all came together tho and I'm pleased.

Warning: it feels a bit greasy when you put it on but it absorbs in you skin fast and feels really soft afterwards. It also made my tattoos look fresher!!! Anyway, hope you like it and of course feedback and advice is always welcomed!! I'm hear to learn!!

I love your soap. The list of ingredients sounds very luscious and fragrant.

The only soap I ever made were the glycerin ones so I can't help you there.

thanks!!! im so excited to use it!! waiting for it to cure is gonna be hard especially since every time I go in my kitchen I can smell it!!

My bees wax was yellow, so my lotion bars are yellowish with the coconut oil and Shea butter.

That's perfect!!! I actually love the color so I was hoping you used yellow bees wax!! thanks lady!

Yup I'm makin these!!! Did you use bleached bees wax? I know where to get some natural yellow color bees wax but not the white kind without ordering it. Also, how do you think vitamin E would do in this? Sorry for the questions. Just curious!

Why does it say my post is mature?

Right above the "upload your photo" button, you have the option to check or uncheck a box that says "Mature Image."  You should be able to edit your post and just un-click that box, I think.

Sounds like awesome soap!  Congrats on posting your first project.

Thanks lady!!! I must have accidentally checked it!

So this is my 1st ever post to crafster for tho I have been a member for 2 years. Anyways, this is my second batch ever of cold process soap and I'm pretty excited!!! It has coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil and shea butter! I scented it with lavender and eucalyptus EOs as well as put some dried lavender buds in it. It smells AMAZING!!! I can't wait for it to cure so I can try it out!! I have a question for you more experienced soapers. As I'm sure you can see in the photo it darkened quite a bit and I believe that's bc it went into gel phase if I have read correctly. How do I stop that from happening? Don't let my lye solution cool down more? I mixed it when it was a couple degrees shy of 120 but I've read that a lot of people prefer to let it cool to 95. Anyways, I'm still pretty proud of myself but would love some feed back!
