31  pink poems sweater in Crochet: Completed Projects by annette on: July 08, 2009 09:43:20 AM

i crocheted this with a big hook and a vague idea...it came out pretty well! it's sort of in the fold of the couch and i don't have a picture of it on, but it's a regular vesty sort of thing, just below waist, wide and open at top.
i was in love with the yarn, though i'm not really a pink girl by nature--gave it to my mom--the colors are just gorgeous, from pink to purple.  it's wisdon yarns "poems", and i really liked working with it--just bought a heap of an ocean colorway on discount at yarn.com, too, to have another go at this sort of thing.

32  crochet bunny head baby blanket in Crochet: Completed Projects by annette on: July 08, 2009 09:37:06 AM

there is a lion brand pattern that i saw with a bunny head and i thought it was sort of cute...but, god knows!  i'm not going to use the suggested yarn or, you know, NOT have stripes...so i start out with my much-smaller yarn, i make my bunny-head oval and start on the stripes and it's all tickin' along and i'm just thinking "it's a square!  gauge won't matter!  i'll just keep crocheting until it's the right size!", not thinking that i'm going to have a super pinhead bunny if i follow this logic...eventually i just crocheted another head and stuffed the pinhead inside and sewed it together...

i wanted to have a more ruffly edge, but i was pretty close to running out of yarn, so it just got this...the yarn is soft and smooth--some plymoth rayon woven thing that is discontinued--and it works up nicely, is washable, etc, but the ends fray like mad and were impossible to weave in normally.  at that point, i just said "i hate babies, anyway" and pulled all the ends to one side and called it good.  it's not going to unravel, just look a little tufty...

33  Re: copper wire and buttons tree, spring version in Completed Projects by annette on: April 22, 2009 07:45:21 AM
thanks!  they're hard on my hands, but lots of fun to make...i made another one back last year about this time that's a little bigger:

it's kind of a challenge to make them balance...sort of like an upside-down mobile.  Smiley

34  copper wire and buttons tree, spring version in Completed Projects by annette on: April 21, 2009 09:19:57 PM

made out of copper wire, various pink and green buttons (reminded me of spring apple blossoms) and the ever-classy popsicle stick base...for my friend peita's birthday.  hanging at the tree's bottom is a square button and wire pendant i made...the tree looks better without it, but i forgot to take a picture until i already had it at school!

35  Re: Post your pretty, unused fabrics! in Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions by annette on: February 18, 2009 10:04:23 AM
i did a project recently where i scanned a lot of my favorite horded or mostly-used fabrics from over the years and printed out a calendar with the fabrics as the background.  i think it came out pretty cool...this is january, from strips of a vintage sheet and some canvas...
here are a couple other months, too--april is one of my favorites, made out of a vintage skirt i had in high school that i cut from the dreaded middie length to above the knee...

36  aprons--kenya and reverse applique name in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by annette on: December 28, 2008 11:44:45 AM

an iron-on of kenya, with vintage ball fringe i've had since i was a little kid!

the pocket of my assistant's apron, vintage sailcloth showing through the canvas for his name.   he moved to the states in the 70s, so we're always talking about 70s stuff...thought he might enjoy the vintage fabric...

38  stuffed cats, one thoughtful, one jolly in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by annette on: December 15, 2008 07:15:12 PM

i seem to have the shakiest hands in the west and there was no sun today, so the pictures are a little blown out by flash...but aren't they...something?
i made the canvas-faced on first and he seemed like such a tragic figure...the second seems much more jovial.  Smiley

both are made from felted sweater, polar fleece (only the orange--i usually hate the stuff for some reason, but the orange i love...), cotton canvas on the one face, some buttons and embroidery floss...

39  apron, "hail seitan" applique in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by annette on: December 09, 2008 07:50:00 PM
i'd seen the phrase on a couple cute cross stiches and tshirts around and it always cracked me up--made this for my friend frank, for his birthday...the only times he ever cooks for me always seem to involve seitan.  he's hard to make things for, but i thought he might enjoy this...

it's just a basic butcher style apron i made with natural canvas for the body and some black duck i had around for the pocket.  the letters are die cut and stitched through on the black patch.

40  cherry blossom applique tshirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by annette on: December 09, 2008 07:44:45 PM
i made this tshirt
a while back and, at the time, wanted to make a cherry blossom version...finally did it!  tied the last knot and was trying it on when my friend mellyp turned up to hang out with me for my birthday!

i really love it, though i can't seem to take a decent picture.  i have lots more plans for this motif!
duh--i linked to the photo, at first, instead of the earlier flutter tree tshirt, so i edited to fix...
