1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / gift for a chemistry prof and wife? on: August 14, 2005 09:00:35 AM

so i'm visiting my husband's uncle next week... he's a famous chemistry prof, and in his sixties... i have no idea what to buy for him and his wife.  so i thought i'd make something, but i don't know what either... help?

thanks bunches!

2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Human Anatomy Charm Bracelet VERSION 2 - opinions solicited. on: August 13, 2005 07:03:38 PM
*edit* pls scroll down to reply #8 to see the new version! *hugs*

hello!  so i had this toy human anatomy model, and i gutted the poor guy and made charms out of his brain, intestines, lungs, kidneys, liver, heart etc.  now he's a bracelet:

some close-ups:

there is an arts/crafts festival here in september, and i have a table to sell my stuff.  i make nerdy crafts, and this festival is near the MIT campus.  should i make more of these to sell at the festival?  and, pretend you're not crafty and you dig this bracelet... what's the maximum you would pay for this?  i'm not sure of the appeal because it's so bizarre... thanks in advance for the feedback!

3  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / quantum mechanics inspired t-shirt on: July 20, 2005 01:01:33 PM
hello! Smiley

i made this t-shirt... i drew the design and made a 2-color stencil.  the "h" with the bar on it is planck's constant divided by 2 pi... it lets you calculate the energy of light for a particular wavelength.  the caption says "nrrdy."  ok, it's a bit bizarre, but i go to an engineering school!  thanks for looking!

4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / some math/science/engineering inspired jewelry on: July 20, 2005 12:52:20 PM
hi everyone!

i just took photos of some recent work for an arts & craft fair application, so i figured i'd post here as well!

figure 1. clockwise, starting from upper left-hand corner: mass-on-a-spring earrings, double pendulum earrings, resistor earrings, pulley earrings, binary "cherry" tree earrings, cherry earrings made from capacitors (one cherry got stuck behind the chalkboard ledge).

figure 2. bracelet and earring sets made from vintage resistors.

figure 3. alien earrings and bracelet set, using polymer clay beads i made (ok, it's more paranormal than science... but i like aliens). also, resistor drop earrings.

this is the first time i've applied to a craft fair, so i'm kinda nervous...

thanks for looking and for your feedback!!!
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / nerdy jewelry! (new photo added) on: June 19, 2005 10:44:46 PM
hi everyone... i posted a couple times before under a different nickname, but this is my first project post.  i am developing a jewelry line for my new geek-gift business.  however since i'm a big nerd i'm not that great with fashion, so i wanted to see what you cool people think.

Earrings made of vintage resistors.

Chandelier earrings - made of resistors

RC Circuit - resistors & capacitors

Binary Tree - for those who've had computer science, the resistors are arranged in a binary tree.
