1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Godzilla Embroidery (My first time crayon tinting!) on: January 02, 2015 06:03:56 PM
I never saw Godzilla look so cute!
I've also never tried crayon tinting, but I love the look, so maybe I'll give it a whirl.

Thank you all! The owl is hanging on my hoopla wall now, although I had several people request one of their own. Sometimes I feel stingy for keeping most of my work for myself, but I just spent so much time with him...

Thanks for the suggestion about washing the fabric. Today I washed all the fabric in my bin (now I have to iron it all... eek!) so we'll see if that's what's causing my problem.
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Gato Muerto on: December 02, 2014 10:06:22 AM
And here's my last one for the day (sorry, I've been holding on to them because things were so busy).
This one was actually pretty difficult to photograph. The pattern is from Urban Threads (http://www.urbanthreads.com/products.aspx?productid=UTH4887)

4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Owl on: December 02, 2014 10:03:15 AM
Here's my owl made from the Dia de los Muertos Owl pattern on Urban Threads. I was stressing about how to fill in those little petals around his collar. I started with satin stitch, which I didn't like around the round edges. Then I tried to just backstitch it, which was a little empty. Then I ended up using a couching stitch with contrasting colors.

I keep getting pucker after I wash my pieces (you can see it in between the chain stitch on his beak). Anybody have any advice about that? I thought working in the hoop was supposed to stop that from happening.
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Toothless hoop on: December 02, 2014 09:57:00 AM
Here's my Toothless (although I took the drawing from a WikiHow http://www.wikihow.com/Draw-Toothless).

It's the first time I used the Fabri-Solvy, and it was amazing! It did, however, prevent me from seeing how dark the fabric was against my thread.
6  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Stitchalongs / Re: Big Project Stitch Along 2014 on: September 03, 2014 01:25:47 PM
Here's my progress for August! I don't usually work with dark colors first, but it's just such a clear outline, it was going to save a lot of time counting and re-counting. So, here's the top of his head!

Next month may be slim pickin's. I'm going to take some small projects (TBD) on vacation with me, and I have a lot of work left for my Halloween costume. So much crafting!

I got really excited, thinking I'd made so much progress, but then I started another section and realized it only looks like I've done a lot because that color was only 1/3 of the stitches for that section. Oy!

...In June we had an amazing lady from Carlsbad come and teach us about cleaning raw alpaca fleeces...

This alpaca is amazing!!
I will admit to sometimes reading too quickly and thought the lady from Carlsbad came to teach you about cleaning raw alpaca feces. I don't think I'd want to stitch with that.

A hippogriff?

An excellent guess! Alas, it is not a hippogriff.
