1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / blocking help please! on: July 27, 2005 09:54:54 AM
i'm new to making garments, and i'm about to block my first piece. what i'm wondering is what happens when you wash the item after wearing it? is all the blocking ruined, or is shaping the garment as it dries enough? any advice would be much appreciated! tia

5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / how would i make this turtleneck? (would i need a knitting machine?) on: July 05, 2005 10:19:32 AM
inspired by the eternity scarf thread, i went to this site:

and i am absolutely taken with the reddish turtleneck (scroll down). would it be hard to make? i figure i'd have to use a super fine gauge yarn, and i'm betting that the only way to get that fine and even a texture would be to make it using a knitting machine. i don't have one/have access to one, i also don't knit (but i do crochet). any suggestions?

would it be really hard to make something similar? what yarns would you guys recommend? (i love everything on her site, in fact. gorgeous stuff!)

tia for your help!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / help! sticky painted furniture! on: June 23, 2005 11:46:17 AM
i primed and painted two tables months ago, and the paint is latex. the paint is still sticking (i think this is called blocking) and there are deep grooves from the lamp now embedded in the paint from the sticking, as well as marks left from any objects that i put on the surface.

is there anything clear i could layer over top to stop this? would a coat of polyurethane help? tia
