1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Cool pompom scarf... any ideas? on: February 09, 2006 12:05:06 PM
could you knit/crochet the scarf base with a furry type yarn, and then make periodic "bobbles" with other yarns? that might work...

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: beaded initial ornaments on: December 19, 2005 12:17:55 PM
stunning!! you could also use fishing wire, or some really thin silver or white ribbon, just so it doesn't take away from the magnificence!

6  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: How Do You Keep Well During Cold and Flu Season? on: December 13, 2005 12:32:16 PM
oil of oregano- the stuff works like nothing else. it's not a substitute for eating well and getting enough sleep, but i took it all last winter and i'm pretty sure it's what helped me avoid all the colds and flus going around (especially if i wasn't eating well or getting enough sleep  Smiley  ).

it's distilled essential oil of oregano, usually diluted in an olive or hemp oil base. it's tastes terrible, but really works. it's available at health food stores.
7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Finally dumping my boyfriend - sigh. *LONG RANT* on: December 05, 2005 12:20:54 PM
i'm late to the party on this one, but...

everyone deserves to be with someone that makes them happy and can be themselves around.

i guess what struck me the most was how articulate you are and how much he, well, just isn't! you need to be with someone who matches you, miss!

a saying kept coming to my mind while i read your post- "it's better to be alone than wishing you were." it's hard because it's so close to the holidays, but honestly- you don't need someone around who will just make things harder for you in the long run.

good luck to you, i admire your courage! being able to say "enough!" is a true test of strength. and it's a real credit to you that you know what your own limits are.

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Prune's hat on: November 23, 2005 10:10:56 AM
she is just as cute as a button! and the hat is beautiful, too.
10  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where the heck can I buy lye?!? or even dried soapwort? on: November 23, 2005 08:18:46 AM
there's a product called red devil lye at most grocery stores in the states (i think) that's usualy located with the cleaning products. i've nevr seen it in canada, but from all reports, it SHOULD be widely avaolable throughout north america.

i actually got some in pellet form from a chemicals manufacturer in my city. when i talked to him, he gave me this huge (to me, anyways) container for free, because he said that unless i was buying it by the truckload, it didn't make sense to charge me for it. asking around can really pay off! i got mine just by flipping through the yellow pages and making a few calls.  Grin

i hope that helps! if nothing else, you may have to order some online through a soap making supply company as a last resort.
