1  COOKING / Dessert / Country Fest Cupcakes! on: June 11, 2009 07:27:33 PM
Hi everyone! Beginning tomorrow at my work (Fort William Historical Park, check out www.fwhp.ca if you're curious, haha), we are hosting a three-day, two-night country concert. As we are understaffed in administration and admissions/customer service, we will need lots of energy to help aid in the 3 days of upcoming double shifts, so I thought...cupcakes!  Cheesy They are chocolate banana cupcakes, but I didn't have any white icing and was too time-crunched to make it, so I had to make due with chocolate.  Undecided

There's a cowboy hat made out of tootsie rolls that were heated and rolled into shape.

Another angle Smiley

My cowboy boot! also made out of tootsie roll

This is Willy. Willy is the name of our voyageur mascot at work, so his name automatically goes to any sort of object/person that belongs to the Fort.

And another Smiley
2  COOKING / Dessert / Pies gone wild. on: June 05, 2008 07:07:39 PM
Hiii. This is a bit of a long story but here goes. I like to make pies and tarts and such on a whim, but am not always a fan of making pie crust that same day as I get lazy. So, today I had an urge to make pies but alas, I could not find a ball of dough labelled 'pie shells'. So, when I found an un-marked dough, I figured I must have been lazy with labels and it was pie dough. I attempted to roll it out to make 2 pies and it would not roll large enough to cover the pan I was using, so I decided to use muffin tins...

Shocked Behold the spectacle of pies gone wild:

These are the blueberry pies I baked first. The mysterious ball of dough actually turned out to be puff pastry. Darn. Hence why they are dark, they cooked for dough-time, not puff pastry-time.

The second batch of rhubarb pies turned out lighter, and the lattice was soo cute but ridiculously annoying after making 3 pies with them.

And holding a pie for size comparison.

Thanks for looking!
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Just one...new to card-making on: March 05, 2008 10:49:46 AM
Hey everyone, I had never made a card before but decided to make one for my boyfriend 'cause he's a romantic boy. Our one month is Friday but he's going home that day so we're hanging out tomorrow. We haven't said the L-word yet so it was hard to choose colours and such but here is my first adventure into card-making!

The pictures are really small but you can click them and make them bigger Smiley

Here is the front of the card with our day on it

The inside with a picture of us taken by a friend at the bowling alley. I didn't realize how un-straight I cut our picture until now, eeps!
The lyrics in this photo read "There's no promise of safety in these secondhand wings, but I'm willing to find out what impossible means; a leap of faith" from the band Thrice, whose concert we had planned on seeing together before he asked me out.

And here's the back! I had my whole name on the back, not just Shea, so it's not off center in real life.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / The ever-elusive boyfriend gift... on: November 21, 2007 07:11:04 AM
Alright, here is yet another thread for a girl outta ideas for what to create/craft for her boyfriend.

The situation: I'm 18, he's 20. We have been dating since September, but the relationship has moved fast in a serious way, so it feels like we've been together for much longer.

The boy:
-first year university student and lives with his family, Anthropology major, wants to switch into teaching math
-Used to be obsessed with Warcraft....II? (the one where an icy person comes up on the screen) and now is more obsessed with Guild Wars, but is trying to quit computer games. so no encouraging/ reminding him about them
-Loves loves loves U2.
-Likes Transformers, he has a calendar of them.
-Problem: he moved back from Calgary this summer and his bedroom is what used to be the dining room = lack of a 4th wall, not allowed to decorate.

Ideas:
-He is always cold, so maybe a fleece blanket to watch TV or something? (any good tutorials would help) possibly decorate it with a superman logo or transformers or something...
-I can paint...was thinking of the Joshua Tree by U2 with "where the streets have no name" theme...

helppppp!!!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Highschool Grad gifts for my bff's! on: May 19, 2007 03:31:33 PM
so for grad gifts, i want them to be meaningful but on the lesser money side..so here's a bit about each of my bffs.

Jordy- the preppiest metrosexual boy you will ever meet. he's a HUGE movie buff, thinks sleeping in a haunted hotel/inn is fun, loves reading books on urban legends and such, is into history, is majoring in history this september at university but ultimately, he wants to be a movie producer or director Cheesy. i've known him since 8th grade and he's my oldest and dearest friend, we went to europe together last year with our moms.

Miranda- the newest friend, who is dutch, farms, but wants to move out of this city and never come back. she wants to live in holland, but right now, is planning to move to london, ontario to take arts design at fanshawe and become a graphic designer. she is going to live in rez. first year. she is also really in shape and loves to run track and play sports, although not on teams, just for fun. she doesn't like competing in things.

Amanda- my best girlfriend who is slowly drifting away. she's really sheltered at home and so can never go out anywhere, and is moving to london, ontario to attend western university this september. mainly to get away from her parents for 4 years. she's also thinkin that she is going to have a better time at university away from this city  Undecided. isn't going to live in residence, she's living at her aunt's house. in 4 years, she is coming back here for medical school. manda is also in super good shape and figure skates but has to stop now that she's moving away....maybe making her "thunder bay" in a box?

Vicki- the old acquaintance who has become super close. she is also dutch and lives on a farm. she never wants to marry a farmer. she is attending the same university as me, lakehead university in thunder bay, wants to be a nurse. most hilarious girl i've ever met. super friendly, has a heart problem (arrhythimias) so cannot have caffeine, chocolate or alcohol. likes to canoe, camp, and fish in the river in her backyard.

Shannon- the school friend who is staying in highschool one more year. should i get her a grad gift?? she likes winnie the pooh, the colour pink, and talking on facebook and myspace. she lost her mom at 10 years old and may possibly lose her dad within a few months of esophogeal cancer. her only sibling moved out and is living with friends. she's nick-named "the banana lady" and she has an alter ego called "the mole rat". ideas? anything will help!!
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / PROM: Themes and Crafty Ideas needed!!!! on: March 01, 2007 04:14:20 PM
Hello craftsters,
My name's Shealyn and I am head of the Graduation Committee at our school for senior prom. As of right now, we are running a wee bit low on funds so I need YOUR help. Background info: Our school colours are black and orange (hallowe'en much?) because we are the Tigers, our prom's being held at a really nice hotel ballroom, really good food, a lotta leeway other than "no confetti, at all!"

Here are some themes we are thinking about:
-An Evening in Paris
-Arabian Nights
-Old Hollywood Glam

UPDATE: The theme has been voted on by our students, and it was decided that "An Evening In Paris" is our theme. Also, we have a DJ that's doing us a nice favour of 5 hours for $200.00...pretty darn sweet. Tickets for food are $40...so that leaves us with a good $1500 for decorations!

It's going to be a very formal affair, as most girls already have their dresses. I need photo backdrop ideas (we can paint it), crafty centerpieces that aren't gonna cost a lot!

8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Mermaid Outta Water on: October 09, 2006 01:23:11 PM
hey guys, my best friends all decided to go with sea-themed costumes after telling them about my sailor pin-up girl costume.

my best friend wants to go as a mermaid out of water, but she doesn't want to be carted around, she wants to walk *sigh* so now i have to somehow make a skirt/tail and a shirt that covers her belly (it is a school dance, have to be modest...boo) any suggestions on patterns/tutes for the tail or shirt?
9  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Sailor pin-up girl costume? on: August 30, 2006 09:02:41 AM
Hey guys, I have figured out I would like to be a sailor pin-up girl for halloween, (never too early right?) but am puzzled as to what to wear. I'm a senior in highschool and I feel a need to make my last halloween costume a statement!

I have my mom's old hat from when she was in Naval Cadets when she was a teen, and the only boundary I have for the costume is it's for a school dance, no stomach showing, or anything reeeeally revealing. I'm up for bare legs, shoulders, etc. Any suggestions, pics, or ideas for clothing I can sew?  Huh
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Graphite drawings!! on: March 26, 2006 01:32:52 PM
So this weekend I got bored and did some drawings instead of my homework...oops. Haha.

This drawing is of myself and my best friend at Robbie Burn's night in January. There is a LOT more shading and stuff in the face, but for some reason my scanner removed it *pouts*. But yeah, this is us.

This drawing is of another friend of mine that I did for her birthday which was on St.Patrick's Day, the day I came back from Italy. Shopping in Italy, other than a few little things, was outta the question for a gift because everything there was waay too expensive.

...i just realized I didn't sign the second one...crap. Anyways, comments and criticism welcome!
