21  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Team Spirit Hats on: August 13, 2013 02:13:58 PM
What does Craftster mean to me? Inspiration

Every day I'm on Craftster, I am inspired by the projects and community.  I tried to think how I could encompass all the things that inspire me into a project, and I came up with Quidditch Team Spirit Baby Hats.  I thought these hats captured many of my Craftster inspirations.  They are:

1. Team Spirit to represent the fantastic community here on Craftster.  I find this most of all in the Craftster Craftalongs, in particular the Harry Potter Craftalong and Summer Nerd Games.  I love how everyone gets together and shares their nerdy loves and crafty awesomeness.  I don't think I would craft nearly as much as I do without these craftalongs and all the wonderful participants who make them great.  Kiss Thank you to all my craftalong peeps! You inspire me everyday!

2. Quidditch as a special shout out to all the Harry Potter Crafters on Craftster.  From HP projects to HP swaps, I am inspired to embrace my love of HP and crafting and get out there and have fun!

3. Baby Hats to represent how Craftster inspires me to craft for good.  Craftster connects me with so many opportunities and people that inspire me to keep up my charity crafting throughout the year.  ((HUGS)) for all those who donate their art to charity; you guys are awesome!  (These hats are to be donated to Bundles of Joy)

4. And lastly, you will notice my hats are crochet.  I think that sometimes crocheters don't think they rock as much as they do, or maybe that's just me.  But I will tell you that the Craftster Crocheters and their projects inspire me to be a proud hooker, and they make me want to grab my hook and crochet all the things!  Craftster Crocheters, You ROCK! Cool

Alrighty, now time for pics...here they are, my Quidditch Team Spirit Baby Hats

28  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Marinated Pasta Salad on: July 07, 2013 11:06:33 AM
Here's my Marinated Pasta Salad recipe.  I love this dish.  It's quick to prep, makes a ton, yummy, and gets in those veggies.  My mom used to make it for me every summer; now I make it, with my own twist.  This salad adapts easily and can be adjusted to include what you have on hand or your fave items.

See...looks yummy doesn't it? Grin

And did I mention, it's perfect thing to bring to summer BBQ or picnic.  (not that you have to save it for summer mind you Cool)

Okay let's dive in...

Marinated Pasta Salad
1 pound pasta, cooked & cooled (Can be any pasta. I'm using rice noodles because I'm gluten-intolerant.)
3-4 tomatoes, diced
1 cucumber, peeled & diced
1 onion, diced (I'm using red onion because I like the color here)
3/4 to 1 bottle of your fave Italian dressing (to your liking really)
1 Tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (you don't have to add this, but I like the kick)
Other items you can add: Parmesan cheese, olives (I had a tin of them I threw them into this batch), sesame seeds, bell pepper, parsley, and I have been known to diced up a leftover chicken breast into my serving for dinner.

Combine everything into large bowl.  Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, overnight is better.  Then dish out & enjoy. Grin

29  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / To Sew, To Live Shrine on: June 28, 2013 02:28:14 PM
I made this shrine for jennieingram during the Shrine Swap.  This was my large, forever fretting over, shrine challenge.  I had the idea for this shrine right off, but I worked on it until the last moment.  And I still feel I could have done more, but overall I was pleased with the results. Grin

~*Sewing mends the soul*~

A shrine to sewers who take that craft to their heart.  May the crafty gods smile upon you!

Let's see a overview of what I did here:  The base is a birdhouse with the front removed; it was then paint, crackled, and painted again.  I used mod podge to line interior.  The red person I made with a wire base which was then wrapped with red thread (unseen is a red fabric heart in the chest).  I wrapped the spools with thread (and stuck a pink one in the back so that it is not front & center, but still a reminder of me, pinkleo Cool).  Used tons of E6000 (I actually reached the end of a tube in this swap) to attach button roof and all the items I gathered.  Oh, there is a red frame in the back which has various sew items...scissors, jar of buttons, threader, etc.  The little needle & pin package on your right was one I found in my grandmother's sewing basket.  And at first, I had the person sewing at a table, but I didn't like that so I abandoned that idea (and the table I crafted); I then had the idea to have her clutching the sewing machine close to her heart.

30  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / For a True Blue Gryffindor on: June 28, 2013 01:58:48 PM
I made this shrine for jennieingram during the Shrine Swap.  I knew I wanted to create something to reflect our mutual love Harry Potter crafting...and our house of Gryffindor. But I wanted to create something that didn't scream Gryffindor or HP.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart

For dear jennie, who is a true blue Gryffindor! Kiss

Some of the components are: shadow box frame, small frame, book pages, paper roses & butterfly, scrabble tiles, lots of E6000, glorious lion piece I received in jar of whimsy swap, crown charm, and very back is magazine pages & mod podge.

so you can see depth...reflective surfaces are not my friend Tongue
