11  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Discussion and Questions / Re: Anyone here make jewelry with pewter components? on: June 11, 2009 09:21:47 PM
I've used plain pewter toggles and charms... that's about it. So far I haven't had any trouble, no colour changes or skin issues.

But as Persephone Hazard mentioned it can be quite soft... a charm I had on a keychain for about a year lost the hard edged and details it had when new, from being banged around so much. Not as big a concern for necklaces, but bracelets maybe.

Have you browsed the supply section on www.Etsy.com?  Lots of fab supply sellers who ship internationally - you can get just about everything!

15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: The Crafty Wedding Craftalong! on: June 11, 2009 08:13:51 PM
Is there still room on the craftalong? I just discovered this thread and oh - so much inspiration!

We're planning for Oct 24/09 - a semi-casual, semi-trendy affair. Here's my crafty to do list:

  • Save-the-dates w/ snazzy circular return labels
  • Candy bar/favor bags
  • Escort cards, Table Chart & Table Numbers
  • Flower girl bouquet
  • Birdcage veil & big-azz flower
  • My jewelry {earrings & bracelet}
  • Necklaces for MoH and 2 Groomsmaids
  • Table runners
  • Card box
  • Menus
  • Sunday brunch tickets

Hrm... I'd better get cracking! The list looks longer than I thought it was! Wink
16  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Flower Girls' Bouquet on: June 11, 2009 07:58:23 PM
I wanted my flower girls' bouquets to also be a fun keepsake for her {she's all about princesses, and girly things right now}, and I couldn't decide on a button bouquet or a 'silk' flower pomander... so I made this fun button bouquet with flower petals!

It was very straight forward to make...

- one lei {I used all-white}, cut string and discard plastic spacers
- selection of colourful buttons {I used 2 to 3 per flower}
- craft or floral wire
- flower tape
- ribbon {not shown}

1. Cut a length of wire twice the length you want your flower stems {I made mine 7-inches long}; bend in half.
2. Select buttons and thread onto wire, so buttons end up in the middle of the wire, with wire threaded on each side of the button.
3. Thread wire onto petals {I used two per flower}.
4. Underneath silk flowers, twist two wire together. And end of wire, bend up and twist onto stem {this is so your flower girl doesn't poke herself on sharp wire ends}.
5. Group three wire stems together, and twist together to form one larger stem.
6. Starting at base, wrap floral tape upwards, on an angle.
7. Group all floral tape wrapped stems together and wrap in the same manner with ribbon. Tie, pin or glue ends to secure.

So fun! I love that it's cheery and colourful, but will also coordinate with my 'big girls' bouquets of all-white carns.
