1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / 'Midsummer Night' series - polymer clay & beads (image heavy) on: November 10, 2008 10:56:37 AM
Hey all,

Wanted to share a few pics of a series I just finished. The pieces are inspired by characters in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. I've recently gotten into polymer clay pendants (they are SO versatile) and a lot of the pieces utilize them.

Here are some of my favs from the series:

"Peaseblossom" Necklace:

"Hermia" Necklace:

"Titania" Necklace:

Thanks for looking! As always, feedback and critiques are welcome :-)
2  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Serenity/Firefly Inspired Jewelry on: March 27, 2008 09:48:37 PM
I'm finishing up moderating a firefly/serenity swap (for those of you who don't know this tv series/movie-- run to blockbuster and rent it! I guarantee amazingness!) and sent some jewelry to my partner.

I made a necklace inspired by the character Kaylee- she's the ship mechanic and is a combination of girly and tough. She wears olive green coveralls with a pink flowered shirt underneath for most of the series. (The show also takes place in the future where the creators imagined the main cultural influences were western and Asian, so I took that into account as well).

I made a bracelet and earrings inspired by the character Inara. She's a companion (essentially a 'working girl' of the future, only extremely classy and respectable). Her room on the ship is full of decadent materials and rich colors. I used nice 14K gold findings and the bracelet is on stretch cord.

Thanks for looking!

4  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Pendant Madness on: February 15, 2008 09:51:05 AM
I've recently become obsessed with making pendants. Inspired by a trip to Anthropologie, (I ganked the picture off of the Anthro site since things disappear sometimes... this is the one that started it all:

I crafted some up recently and have painted them. The bottom red one has found its way into a necklace. I love em!

5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Play Free Bird! on: February 15, 2008 08:59:33 AM
I just can't stop thinking that lately as most of my art is based on birds and owls and flying creatures. Nerd.

Anyway, I painted this for my swap shop. It was very popular and I'm going to do more similar ones! I painted a number of pieces of cardstock, paper, construction paper, etc. then used them as the medium on the canvas. This piece is on an 8 1/2" by 11" canvas.

(Note: I know this might not technically be "arty," but it's kind of whimsical and different than my normal paintings. It can be very fun to just paint cute stuff.)

Thanks for looking!  Smiley

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / "Frogging" old sweaters? on: October 17, 2006 07:48:54 AM
I've been reading about how people buy sweaters at the thrift store and use the yarn to make something else, but I don't understand how. Do you just unravel it? Where do you start? Is frogging even the right term?

Obviously, I'm a little confused.
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Current ATC Swap? on: July 23, 2006 06:27:40 PM
I've always wanted to be in an ATC swap but I can't find one that's going on right now. Is there interest in one? (Not sure what theme, it would depend on the interest level).
9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Comic/superhero swap Round 2? on: May 31, 2006 10:05:37 AM
Hey everyone, I was just browsing galleries (hard at work, I know) and found the gallery from this swap's first round. Would there be any interest in a round 2? (I know that there is some talk of an X-men swap so there might be overlap, but I'm more of an old-school X-men fan in addition to other comics/graphic novels, so I thought this might be a seperate entity).

I've never organized, but maybe I should pay my dues and give it a try Smiley
10  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Help Girls Rock! on: March 28, 2006 10:10:56 AM
Hey everyone,

I've just gotten involved with this new project, The Chicago Rock Camp for Girls (www.girlsrockchicago.org) and it's in its infancy stage. It's very similar to the Willie Mae camp for girls in New York and the Rock'n'Roll Camp for girls in Portland.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping girls and young women learn to create rock and roll and promote their bands, as well as make friends and develop a strong, DIY attitude!

We will be running a summer camp for girls ages 9 through 16 in Chicago, during early-mid August 2006. Camp will be open to girls throughout the city, regardless of background, musical experience, or ability to pay for camp. We will provide instrument instruction, fun workshops, performances, as well as a chance to form bands with other girls througout the city.

Where craftster comes in: We are thinking of doing a silent auction. I immediately thought of some of the kickass stuff you guys all make! If you have anything you'd like to donate to the project, either write donate@girlsrockchicago.org or PM me.

Please consider helping out this very worthy cause!
