found this little tutorial granted its for a beach robe but the idea is the same, it has pictures also but i didnt read in detail so hopefully she does well explaining the process. looks fairly simple. http://www.danamadeit.com/2013/03/pattern-remix-beach-robe-pattern-to-cozy-house-robe.html

this one is a little more simple but may be able to go off the pattern. http://nenesta.deviantart.com/art/Simple-Hooded-Cloak-Pattern-286331009

and this one looked helpful. http://diyfashion.about.com/od/costumes/ss/Make_a_Cape.htm

I like the shorts idea for the bottom i think a skirt would come off a little ...show girly instead of circus. Sounds precious! was looking around and maybe to add the skirt effect you could make a sort of  bustle type skirt add-on to the shorts to incorporate the corset colors with it?

i would say instead of making a longer skirt maybe go with leggings underneath since you already are planning the leg warmers. a shorter skirt with the tail coming out of the top back maybe use wire to make it curl close to you so you can keep tail length without tripping anyone. as  for the top i would probably just find a good size tank top or even a long sleeve black shirt and use it as a base for the blanket so you can still cover up but have the shape right. hope this helps maybe.
8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / making a mask..? on: October 11, 2013 11:37:03 AM
ok so this year i am making a total of 4 costumes. One is completely finished and the others are only missing a few last components but i am stuck on the only one that includes a mask. I have searched in the internet for tutorials and tips but this mask is not a silicone/latex mask it is an oogie boogie mask that i intend to make as part of the front panel for the costume in order to keep the ...cowl? hem only in the back. my problem is that while i  know how i will make the facial features ( eyes, mouth) support im not sure about the overall structural support. I dont want the mask to just fall over the persons head and droop. ive had a few ideas but so far the only one that seems like it might work is to make a system of tiny pillows on the inside of the mask to rest on the persons face and hold the masks shape. Im wondering if anyone else has run across this type of project and how they managed to keep the masks shape. Or even if you havent does it seem to anyone else that the pillows idea might work?
