11  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My First Real Projects - Scarves and Fingerless gloves set on: October 21, 2013 10:54:33 AM
I thought it would be fun to post my first real projects I've completed crocheting. The scarf and fingerless gloves/mittens, I call them mittens because they don't have indivual finger holes, are Christmas Presents for my Sister-in-law. The Blue scarf is for my mom's boyfriend.
The scarf is just a very basic single crochet design and the gloves/ mittens I altered the pattern slightly from a pattern I found by Rachel on CornFlower Blue http://cornflowerbluestudio.blogspot.com/2011/12/free-crochet-pattern-organic-cotton-arm.html I added a thumb hole about half way down so instead of arm warmers they came out gloves. Whatcha think?
12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Wheels for Cinderella's Coach? on: October 21, 2013 03:42:41 AM
Hi For a pumpkin contest at school my daughter wants to do Cinderella with the coach and clock tower. We were working on a paper mache coach but the hubby suggest we get a small gourd instead since the coach was a pumpkin. Anyway which ever we decide to use is going to need wheels. I'm not sure how to make them I found some ideas, using wire and paper mache but they're not quite what I was looking for. Of course the back up plan is cardboard if I can't find anything else, but I was hopeing with all the crafty folks on here maybe someone might know a fancy way to create the wheels so they would look nice.
Thank you.
13  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Has anyone tried making crayon lipstick? on: October 15, 2013 04:29:17 AM
I recently found some videos/ blog posts on making lipstick with crayons. Well I tried my hand at it yesterday and the wax separated from all the other ingredients. I remember I had this problem when I tried making homemade lip balm as well but for the life of me can't remember how I fixed it.
Has anyone tried this and know what I'm talking about or how to keep everything from separating during the cooling process?
14  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Need some knot help on: October 10, 2013 04:05:46 AM
I'm doing a handmade Christmas this year and I have this Celtic charm I want to use as a necklace for my father-in-law. My idea is a macrame/ hemp type necklace. He's kinda laid back and I'm pretty sure would like it, but I can't find any knots I like. I was hoping to find a tutorial with something Celtic looking to go with the charm but the closest I've found is a Pretzel knot and I'm not crazy about it. Sorry for the pun, wasn't intended.
Does anyone know of some interesting knot tutorials? And could you post the links pretty please?

Hiya! I'm Shandy Jo yes that is my real name. I'm a stay at home mom with two munchkins, and a wonderful hubby. I run Mama Knows Books a book blog and also review for Not Now...Mommy's Reading and Dark Diva Reviews. I read pretty much anything that catches my eye but holds a special place in my heart for zombies, ghosts, and anything that goes bump in the night. When not chasing down kids she is planted in her favorite chair, with her prize possession (a kindle fire), exercising, hiking, gardening, crocheting, making jewelry, tying knots in things, driving hubby crazy with DIY project or honing my survival skills for the zombie apocalypse.
