1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Half-a-Hoopla Swap Gallery! on: September 14, 2014 10:15:54 PM
Post your collaborative creations here! I can't wait to see.

Please try to set up your post as a Before (what you sent in Phase 1) and After (what you got in Phase 2). If necessary, see if you can coordinate with your partner to get the pics in one place so everyone can see the evolution of the hoop. Smiley

2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Half-a-Hoopla Swap (SIGNUP CLOSED; 2ND ROUND MAIL BY 9/12) on: August 03, 2014 10:55:01 PM
Swap name: Half-a-Hoopla
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: dontneedaclassroom

Sign-up date range: 8/4/14 through 8/11/14
Date to send item:
This is a 2 Phase Swap!
- Phase 1 (make your base) must be mailed by 8/25 (2 weeks from end of sign-up)
- Phase 2 (finish your partner's hoop) must be mailed back by 9/12 (2 weeks +4 days for Phase 1 mailing time), or 18 days after your partner sends if they are late.

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Limited to 16 people

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? YES... ish.
If so, which country?
Because there are 2 rounds of mailing, you and your partner must live in the SAME country.

If you live in the United States, you can sign up and get assigned a random partner as usual.

If you are living outside the US:  we'd love to have you, but you'll need to find and invite a partner from your same country, and both sign up at the same time (within 2 days please). You will not be added to the swap until both of you have joined. Feel free to ask within this swap thread if you don't know someone already!

Additional Age requirement? NO

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES

This is a fast and fun swap to get you out of your comfort zone! One week of signup, then two crafty phases of two weeks each.

You will start a hoopla and then send it to your partner (Phase 1). Your partner will doll it up and mail it back to you, and you will get an awesome surprise when you see the result (Phase 2). For example, if you make the branches of a tree, your partner might finish it with button leaves or a bird nest or whatever they like.

Because most of the fun of this exercise is getting something completely unexpected, you are encouraged to keep an open mind. Note that there is a section in the questionnaire for things you absolutely would not be comfortable receiving/working on, but there is NO section for requests. Your partner will bring their own talents and creative spark to the project, and you'll do the same. Smiley

Please only send "extras" that are potential craft supplies for your hoop. For example, if your base uses a lot of a particular color of embroidery floss, you might send a skein of that floss as a resource for your partner to use when finishing the hoop. However, your partner is under no obligation to use the supplies (or to send unused supplies back)!

There is no point value for this swap. The goal is that when you finish your partner's base, you will match or exceed their level of effort.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap: Half-a-Hoopla
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address including the country:

Are you located inside the USA?

If you are not located inside the USA, you must find a partner who lives in the same country as you, and you must join the swap at the same time.
- What is the Craftster username of your partner?
- What country are you both in?

Confirm that are at least 16 years old: (YES/NO)

Are there any themes or media you absolutely would not be comfortable working on or receiving back? (For example, animal bones/leather, nudity, swear words, etc...)

Do you have any serious allergies that would prevent you from working on/enjoying a hoop that has been exposed to the allergen/s?
Do you have any major allergens in your home?

Please post in the swap thread before submitting your information.

Also, remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap.

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Half-a-hoopla on: June 23, 2014 10:24:26 AM
Would anyone be interested in a swap where you start a hoopla and then send it to your partner to finish? For example, you make the branches of a tree and let your partner finish it with button leaves or a bird nest or whatever they like.

This would have the added benefit that you wouldn't have to send the frame through the mail, which is what always seems to make the package expensive.

On the other hand,  the person starting the hoop might do too much or not enough of the design, so there could be lopsided efforts.

What do you think?
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Envelope of Ephemera swap? on: January 30, 2014 11:07:11 PM
Most of my ephemera is from my time working at a used bookshop, years ago - from the boxes of books people brought in. In among the books I'd find magazines, stickers, paper doll books with half the dolls cut out, kids books falling apart... So many treasures the bookstore had no use for, and I got to keep them. Smiley

BUT! My closet is still full of buckets of the stuff, and I've gotten all the inspiration from it that I'm gonna get, I think. I'd rather pass it on than toss it out; some of it is really cool.  Anybody else out there in this boat? Let's pass some paper around!

(I don't think I could run the swap, I just want to be in it! So, I'm also looking for a volunteer...)
5  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 90 ENTRIES / Pocket full of sunshine on: September 05, 2013 09:55:34 PM

My cubicle-neighbor gave me an empty, tiny Altoids tin a while back because she knows how much I like tiny things.  Smiley Lately she's been having a really rough time in both her personal and professional life, and I've been trying to think of something I could do to cheer her up. When I saw this challenge go up, something clicked and I knew exactly what I could do for her.

(And so I finally took the plunge to make an account, too.)

This is the tin - my hands are pretty small; I think the tin dimensions are around 1.75" x 2.5" x.75". I intentionally left the outside nondescript so she could actually carry it around in her purse without worrying about damaging it.

Here is a view from a little above so you can see the drawing in the bottom of the tin a little better:

And finally a view from the side, showing the construction:

I made this entirely at work so it's all stuff I had at my desk; black pen, blue and yellow highlighters, copy paper, and white glue. The sunflower stem on the big flower is a piece of yarn off of a scarf that I use as a wrist support for my mousepad. I <3 free crafts!

She wasn't at work today but I can't wait to see what she thinks of it tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in a tute, let me know and I will write one up. Smiley
