1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Pegboard Costs on: July 08, 2005 09:29:12 PM
For the pieces that are about 5 ft long and 3 ft. wide, it should be between $8 and $12. I always
check the bargain bin for scraps sometimes they get marked way down even if just the corner is chipped.
2  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Is this a total scam or what? on: July 08, 2005 01:38:38 PM

I have an online shop and recieved an e-mail from a store in
Gambia, Africa wanting to place a wholesale order. She first asked
if I could ship internationally and accept credit cards, after replying to her,
she asked me if I could give her my website address, which I found to be odd.
I was under the impression that she had stumbled upon the website and contacted
me from there. After e-mailing
back and forth about her order, I recieved this:

Dear Jenn,
thanks for the mail .i really do appreciate your concern about the order and i must confess that you are a good sales-Woman. I really appreiate your quick and very efficeint response ,I will also like you to assist me on some items because i be will needing a PORTABLE DVD MP3 PLAYER WITH "8 TO 10" SCREEN.I want this in (4pcs) i want to present this to my first daughter on her wedding day which is fast approaching ahead of me and i have checked all the DVD stores but did not get the brand and I also called a distributing company for DVD but they are yet to carry the brand and  resulting to the same thing they said it will take 5 weeks before i can get them,So i will want you to please help me check a nearby store and I will give you my card to charge for the whole bill including the items ordered from your store. I will be waiting for your prompt confirmation so as to give you my cards to charge for the bill  for the DVD plus the ordered items from your store too,i will really appreciate it if you will be of my assistance and i am willing to give you 10% commission for any stress when searching for the DVD also will want you to email me with your full name and address so that i could mail you an invitation letter because i will want you to be my only special guest of the day.So i will be expecting your swift response soonest possible. Kindly find my shipping address below.

I'm not sure what to think. I sure don't plan on attending her first daughter's wedding.
I am fairly certain this is a credit card scam, what do you think? Has anyone else been
contacted by this person?

3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Re: Ring Bearer's Pillow on: April 28, 2005 10:29:44 AM
What about sewing together 2 vintage handkerchiefs to make a pillow. If you only
have one hankie, you could use any coordinating fabric as the back.
4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: CRAFTERS COAST TO COAST - SEASON 3 TALENT SEARCH! on: April 08, 2005 12:28:05 PM
I love the show, but the awkward time fillers they do with the crafters are out of control.
I considered doing the show, but I don't want to have to do a stupid dance or twirl my craft supplies
in the air, so they can fill time. Why not add a 4th crafter and do away with this?
5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Re: Website opinions wanted!! on: March 25, 2005 11:45:26 AM
Cute site! You may want to rethink your vintage pattern prices, however. I have boxes of some of those same patterns that I find at thrift stores for less than a quarter. I, personally would never pay more than one or two dollars for a vintage pattern no matter how rare it is. Good luck with your business! Can't wait to see the vintage fabrics.

what would you use this "bottle cap art" for? It sounds like a big time waster to me.
Maybe if you placed a picture in the wax, it would make more or some sense.
7  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Shrinky Dinks (sounds weird, but bear with me) on: January 16, 2005 12:33:09 PM
I've been making shrinky dink charms for about a year now, and they are one of the best sellers whenever I do bazaars. I sell them for like $3 or $4 and set a tray of them out. People love them. They are so cute on necklaces or bracelets and can also be used as keychains. I'm working on making some shrinky dink pins.
Don't doubt the power of the shrunken plastic. It's an awesome power.
8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Cheddar Bay Biscuits (ya know, the ones that give out at Red Lobster) on: January 15, 2005 07:21:37 PM
Everyone should check out http://copykat.com/
They have recipes from tons of restaurants. My favorite is the Olive Garden Alfredo sauce. Crappy food, but fabulous Alfredo sauce. Trust me, it's yummy!
9  COOKING / Dessert / Your favorite, most yummy cake recipe ever! on: January 15, 2005 03:24:41 PM
You know, the one that makes you look like an expert baker to coworkers and friends, the recipe you've given out so many times you lost count, the one you've become famous for or maybe just the one your mom used to make.
Well, put them here!
I'll go first:

Kathy's Crazy Mom's Yummy Apple Cake:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
4 cups of chopped apples (larger chunks ok)
2 cups of vegetable oil
2 eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Blend above ingredients, set aside.

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
For an extra yummy flavor, I always add some cardamom, fresh grated nutmeg, a dash of ginger and a pinch of allspice.
Blend together and add to apple mixture

Pour into ungreased 9 X 13 baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

I like to top it off with some brown sugar icing, this is optional, some fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream is also good.

Brown Sugar Icing
1/4 c. brown sugar
2 T. butter
1 c. confectioner's sugar
2 T. Milk (can substitute almond milk)
1 t. vanilla extract

Combine sugar, milk and butter in saucepan; stir over medium heat until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, whisk in vanilla and confectioner's sugar (more, if too thin).

Pour over slightly cooled cake.
Devour with glee!

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: stupid Martha Stewart! on: January 13, 2005 10:37:31 AM
One hundred and fifty dollars on margaritas???!!!
That's madness, what the heck was in them, liquid silver?
I'm guessing a little rum, some
coconut milk, sugar, fresh coconut and a slice of lime. That should be $20 max!
