hey, i'd say that you could just use that foam-board stuff to cut out the propellors (sp?) and the landing bits on the bottom, and then um... paper mache the body of it? lol, just a few ideas.

wow, you guys rock.  Grin i LOVE the different language embroidering ideas.. i've definitely got to find a way to fit that in there. What's a tie quilt?? I am a total beginner.
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Laughter Around the World Quilt ideas? on: September 24, 2006 09:06:51 AM
Hey guys, first let me start out by saying that I totally respect and love all the work that you create! I'll try not to be obnoxious about asking you all for ideas since it's my project, thus my responsibility.
Ok, so here's the deal. At my school district everyone in the Centers for Advanced Studies (honors classes, basically) has to complete a Long Term Project. I have chosen World Cultures class for mine since I'd have the most leeway with it (my other classes are Chemistry and Spanish.. not happening). I decided after much deliberation to make a quilt because I've never done it before, and make the topic laughter around the world. So here's where I hit a snag: Since I need to have this done by January, should I quilt the whole thing or do appliques of stuff? I'd like to throw in some embroidery too, which I've done in the past to other things I've sewn so it wouldn't be so much of a headache. I might just quilt the border and then do appliques... but I'm not sure. Do you experienced quilters have a preference? Also, what makes you guys laugh? I'm already thinking of incorporating laughter clubs from India somewhere in there.. and of course the famed banana peel.  Grin
