1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / nautical but nice? Sailor dress on: July 28, 2008 10:30:01 AM
So there is a burlesque-ish nautical themed fund raising night for the edinburgh girls roller derby and i decided to make a dress...my very first piece of clothing to sew (apart from a few t shirt projects that went wrong...) ... a week before the night out....

in the end i didnt wear it because i didnt have time to sew the collar on as you can see plus my sister and mum thought it didnt look too great..  Embarrassed i dunno i think its ok for my first effort but will i ever get the chance to wear it??

I used a pattern for the wrap dress (newlook 6674-which seems to be made for people who have saggy boobs and no waist..or maybe its just my sewing!) and i was brave and made up the collar pattern
im glad i did it tho,im not so scared about sewing stuff now!learned a lot!

anyhoo, here are the pics...

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / glass beaded goddess/spirit/elements dolls IMG OBESE! on: August 15, 2007 10:51:36 AM
Hi guys, this is the first time ive made a beaded doll ... or anything beaded in fact apart from simple jewellery stuff but i think im getting the hang of it, just kinda making it up as i go along! Cheesy

Ive decided to make a theme, 4 elements - earth, air, fire and water so ive done 2 out of 4 so far, they take ages to make, heheh.
i was inspired when i seen this thread https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=83286.0
i drew up a similar pattern myself, the dolls are about 7 inches tall and made from felt and silver lined glass beads, i used some roving for the mermaids hair and made some into dreadlocks and put fish beads and pearls in. i made the faces from fimo in a mold and the have some mica powder on them and have been glossed.

hmmm... i think thats about it, please let me know what you think any criticisms/ suggestions/ questions, thank you for looking  Grin
the mermaid is my first doll and the tree is the second one ive made

10  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / tasty and easy smooth tomato and basil soup and leek and potato soup on: March 31, 2007 11:12:15 AM
i love making soup and these are two of my favourites, i just make the recipies up as i go along and they are so easy to make and tasty! i didnt know if i should put this in the vegetarian section or not since im not a veggie.
Usually i make a bowl for myself and my mum and keep the rest in the fridge for the next day.
here are the recipies

Smooth tomato and basil soup

Makes 2-3 bowls

700g Jar Smooth passata (crushed sieved tomatoes)
1 vegetable stock cube
1 clove garlic
2 tablespoons tomato puree
Handful fresh basil (or about 1 tablespoon dried depending on your taste)
Olive oil
Freshly ground pepper

First crush and chop the garlic smooth, heat a little olive oil (2 tablespoons?) in a pot at a very low temperature and add the garlic, keep stirring for about 1 min then add the passata and puree, add the stock cube to 200ml of water, stir then add to the pot. Chop some fresh basil and add to the pot, add some ground pepper to taste. Simmer on low heat for 10 mins.
i think if you cooked some pasta and added it to the soup it would be yummy! but i havent tried that yet.

Leek and Potato soup

Makes approx 4 bowls

2 large potatoes
2 medium leeks
1 veg stock cube
Teaspoon dried parsley
Salt and pepper to taste

(carrots are also nice added to this soup)

Boil water in a pot and add stock cube roughly chop potatoes and leeks and add along with the parsley, bring to boil and then leave to simmer for about half an hour. Add salt and pepper to taste. Use a hand blender and blend the soup until creamy or what I like to do is just blend half the soup because I like it creamy and chunky, mmmm!
