101  Help! my garden wall is ugly! in Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions by kinkyknit on: August 28, 2005 02:43:02 AM
I have a tiny garden, with an ugly wall in it:
It gets covered in weeds (which I de-weeded yesterday) which is annoying, and I'm seriously not a gardening type person, so I'm looking for ideas on how to cover it up in a way which won't be too expensive and won't need lots of upkeep.

Edited to say: The picture is quite small, so it might be difficult to see, but it's a stepped wall made from stones covered in chicken wire.

102  Re: Rowan "beau" caplet & a Ruffle scarf in Knitting: Completed Projects by kinkyknit on: August 20, 2005 01:33:53 AM
I think they are size 35 US.  They're really big - like knitting with smartie tubes! (do you have Smarties in the US??)
(that's not me btw -I googled a picture for you.  I look much happier when I'm knitting! Cheesy)
It was knit in Rowan's Big Wool Tuft which is very chunky and has bits sticking out every so often to make the tufts.

103  Rowan "beau" caplet & a Ruffle scarf in Knitting: Completed Projects by kinkyknit on: August 19, 2005 03:10:09 PM
I've been experimenting with the different ways of knitting a ruffle, and I knit this scarf this afternoon.  I used bamboo needles (well, needle - a circ) for the first time - veeery nice! It's knit in rowan chunky print.  What do you think?

I knit this caplet on holiday last week:

It's knit on 20mm needles which was FUN!  Grin
I love this caplet so much I can hardly bear to take it off, but we're having some unusually hot days at the moment here in the UK... Roll Eyes

104  Re: knit alien face-hugger in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by kinkyknit on: August 19, 2005 03:07:36 AM
Here are some pictures I found of the face hugger (very gross, if you haven't seen the film, I'm sorry).  I'm not under any illusions that the FO will be particularly realistic,  I'd like it to be much less scary!  We saw a toy version in a comic shop and my husband joked that it could be my next knitting project. So, with his birthday coming soon....!

I'm thinking it'd be best to  make it in sections and then sew it together: legs and tail will be quite easy, it's the body that's throwing me, with the curvy bits at the tail end (it's hips?!)  The short row idea could work though for that bit, so thank you Duckie, and I like your idea Fozzie for the middle bit of the body.

Yay! it's coming together a bit in my head now!

105  What can I make this into? in Discussion and Questions by kinkyknit on: August 18, 2005 12:11:58 PM
I sewed all sorts of crap onto these pieces of fabric ages ago and now I don't know what to do with them.

I thought about making them into pictures or cushions, but that would be tedious.  I also thought about making them into a corset, which I think would look nice, but I can't be bothered.

Obviously someone has already voted for "cat bed/toy"

What do you think?

106  Re: iPod Cozies in Knitting: Completed Projects by kinkyknit on: July 27, 2005 04:16:07 AM
When I saw all of these ipod cosies, I couldn't help but be jealous, so I immediately set about knitting my own.  I decided I wanted a cup cake cosy:

It looked better in my head, but even still, I'm quite proud of it  Embarrassed

PS Sorry the pictures are so small, I have no idea how you get nice big images!!!
