1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Shining Snowflake Ornaments on: November 09, 2012 08:44:48 AM
A few weeks ago, while debating what my annual home-made Christmas ornament would be this year, a fleeting thought crossed my mind: "How can I make beaded snowflake ornaments? They would be so pretty!" I've worked a little bit with wire in the past, experimenting with a range of gauges to find out what would bend easily but still support weight, so I thought that might work and set out to find some examples online. After a bit of googling and Etsy browsing, I came across something even better: pre-made wire snowflake forms!

Score! I immediately ordered a bunch on Amazon and impatiently waited for them to arrive in the mail. (None of my local craft stores appeared to carry them.) In the mean time, I stocked up on beads, taking full advantage of sales and coupons. Soon, with all my supplies gathered, I was ready to start crafting! Here's a look at a few of my favorites so far...

Happy holiday crafting!

Happy Fiber Friday!

After taking the spring and summer off, it's gotten cold and I felt the urge to do some spinning!

"Juliette" - Wool, some nylon glitz for sparkle, plied with red crochet cotton

"Movie Star" - Wool with recycled sari silk throughout, plied with black thread

Thanks for looking!

5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Bag Made From Handspun on: March 06, 2008 02:12:47 PM
I've seen a lot of requests to see something actually made with handspun yarn, so here's what I just finished!

The yarn is an off-white linen (flax) spun by me. I wasn't sure exactly what to do with it, or what to recommend that someone else do with it! I've been holding onto it for a while, though, so I decided to make a summer bag in this pretty crochet stitch I found.

I lined the inside with a really soft tan/gold fabric I found on sale for 29 cents at Wal-Mart!

And finally, a close-up:

The sewing is pretty terrible, but I think it's cute anyways! Thanks for looking!

7  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Glitter Trees on: January 06, 2008 07:17:32 PM
So I saw these tiny, cute painted Christmas trees with glitter at a craft show, and decided to try some of my own. My family loved them, so I "branched out" (pun intended!) to other types of trees as well, and thought I'd share some!

Cherry Blossom

White birch tree in summer

Hope you enjoy! Happy New Year!
8  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Peacock-inspired and more! on: November 28, 2007 10:42:44 AM
Well I've been building up my supply for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd share some new yarns that I've been working on! It's been rainy and dark and cold, but I finally got some nice pics today. All the yarns are wool and were dyed by me.

"Peacock Schmeacock"

"Later Gator"

"Photograph 3"

"Henny Penny"

Hope you enjoy!

10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Some new yarn on: August 14, 2007 06:29:02 AM
I think I've become a little more experimental lately, inspired by all the art yarns, so this is what I have to share today:

alpaca with sari silk, plied with black thread, unnamed

unknown wool, mohair, silk, plied with white thread and red beads (which you can't really see in the pic), unnamed

Thanks for looking, and have a great week!
