2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / More Junk Journals made from Nancy Drew books on: July 24, 2017 03:49:17 PM
The first in a series of 5 or 6 junk journals I'm making and giving away (some are surprises and some are requests) using Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. I do collect these but I like the non-shiny covers - 1965 I think? Anyway, these were free or about to be recycled so I rescued them.

For a friend, Jana, who is going through some stuff....

The inside is covered in fabric after I reinforced the spine with sticky-back canvas.

And the pages are the usual - security envelopes, scrapbook scraps, card stock, vintage book pages, et cetera.

3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Flow-ish Journal on: July 24, 2017 03:45:01 PM
Another journal, another post and as always, starring my left pointer finger. Seriously, can a sister get a binder clip?

This is a Flow-ish journal - inspired by Flow magazine. It is a Dutch magazine (printed in English, too!) that is crafty, house-y, and life-style-y. They also print a Flow for Paper Lovers - a thick book with all kinds of goodies that you are encouraged to rip out and use in your own projects. This has inspired folks to make these for their crafty friends so here is the first one I have made.

The cover should be a repurposed item - I used a a cookie box. I painted the plain side of the box and kept the printed side as is.

The pages are not bound in - I used file bands - aka giant rubber bands. You fill it with everything we use in the junk journals - all kinds of paper. The receiver can pull out stuff to use. Similar to the paper destash swaps - this is just a different delivery system.

Details of swap: This is the fourth (I think) Junker Jane-style doll swap. Who is Junker Jane? She is a Portland-based artist - more info here:
http://junkerjane.com

You make a doll based on your partner's preferences - the fun thing about these dolls is that the wide range of fabrics and embellishments you can use. In past swaps, swappers made cats, snakes, an octopus and other creatures and critters with many types of fabric and lace, stain, painting and found objects. Some folks prefer the grungy look while others have used bright and colorful fabrics. It is artist's choice ultimately but there is so much freedom to making these dolls.

Not a doll maker? That's okay, too. The limbs are often attached externally and the sewing can be sketchy and uneven, which adds to the charm of these creations.

For international partners (if we have some) - It is okay to send doll UNSTUFFED to save on postage. I know that postal rates in the US are high so this will help with postage.

6  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Craftster Trading Cards #2 SEND OUT May 20 on: April 02, 2017 04:08:48 PM

Here is the Gallery to Round 2: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=452179.0

(BTW - I did ask underthemountain and alteredmommy if it was okay to host the second round - they both said yes!)

CRAFTSTER TRADING CARD SWAP #2
This is the second (and hopefully not the last) Crafster Card Swap. This swap was inspired by the What do you look like thread on the Crafster Off-Topic Chit Chat and the awesome Crafster Canada Meetup in July 2016. The idea is to make a card all about you, kinda like a baseball card, but even more awesome. You can reproduce your card or create new ones for each of your partners. You can craft it from any material, but make sure that it is sturdy and that it will fit into a card sleeve if you are using different materials. Please use both the front and backsides of your card to tell us all about you!

BASIC CARD REQUIREMENTS
There are some basic requirements that should be on your card:
Size of the card: Should be the standard ATC 2.5" x3.5"
Front side: should include your image (can be done as a photo, drawing, painting, digitally altered, completely up to you!) and your Crafster name
Back side: can include your interests, your real name, address, etc. ..whatever you are comfortable with; you can even write a poem.  Completely open!

Date to send item by: Saturday May 20, 2017
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): NO
Additional Age requirement? NO

*DC #s are not required, but you will have to resend if the ATC is not received*
*Please send all your cards on the same day to make it easier on me. Thanks!*

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER
Please send to Smmarrt with Craftsters Trading Card Swap #2 - signup" as the subject.

*Name of Swap:  Craftsters Trading Card Swap #2
*Craftster username:
*Email address:
*Your real name:
*Mailing address including the country (written as it would appear on the envelope):
*Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? (In the first round, we swapped with all of the participants. This is a requirement for this swap.)
*Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval(YES/NO):

***It was discussed in the New Swap Themes thread that everyone wants to swap with everyone else. This might seem overwhelming if this is your first time swapping trading cards. And yes the postage will add up if this is a group of 20 or more swappers. If requested, I can set up a smaller swap group of 5 or 10.

Do you want to swap with everyone who signs up?
Do you want to swap with 5 people?
Do you want to swap with 10 people?

If you are joining the for the second time, would you be willing to swap in one of the smaller groups to help out novice trading card makers? This means you would make an additional 4 or 9 cards to send out.

*What is the exact size of an ATC?
*Will you post a photo of the card(s) when you receive?
*Are you aware that if an ATC is lost in the mail, you are required to resend?
*Have you read the entire swap information for this swap?
*Will you send sent/receive notifications to the swap organizer?
*Will you send all of your cards out on the same date to help the swap organizer?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also, remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap.

FEEDBACK
Positive feedback will be given when all of the cards you sent have been received and you have posted pictures of the cards you received. If you are stuck without a space for a swap and are biting your nails waiting, just let me know and I will release you asap.

ANY QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions please post them in the discussion thread or PM the co-organizers, Smmarrt and xxx
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craftster Card Swap Round 2 on: February 22, 2017 09:35:38 PM
I know there is interest in this. I need to go back and read the discussions in the gallery and original thread because I know that we had discussed using baby pictures, pet photos and something else.

The concept is that you make a trading card of yourself to trade with your Craftster friends. One side has an image or photo (or stamp or stencil) of your beautiful Craftster face. The back of the card has fun facts about you - anything you are happy to share. The cards are 2.5" by 3.5" - standard ATC or playing card size.

Okay, discuss.

(I'm thinking April and May for this - I'd like a bit more crafting time than the first time. 3 or 4 weeks maybe.)

Details of swap:

The 4x6 Art swap runs like this:  You make a piece of art, in your style, in your medium, how you want.  The only parameters are that you keep it flat(ish), and 4 inches by 6 inches in size. You will have no idea who your partner is, until "Address time", which will be at the end of the crafting period.  You also have to "check in" with me, the organizer approximately a week after the sign ups close - this lets me know that you are ready to send. If you do not check in, you will be removed from the swap. You will only know their address and proper name. You will have approximately 1 week after check in period to ship your personal art off!

Here is the time line broken down:
~ Sign ups: February 4 - February 15, 2017
~ Crafting period: Starts NOW Feb. 4 to Feb. 20
~ You are required to check in with the organizer via pm between the dates of Feb. 16 - Feb 20. Anyone who has not checked in by 7PM (PST) on Feb. 20th will be dropped from the swap and will not receive an address to send to.
~ Addresses will be distributed no later than February 21, 2017.
~ You must ship February 22 - 28, 2017.

Swap Rules:
~You must post in thread at least once before being accepted into the swap.
~ Please continue to communicate within the thread at least once per week.
~ No extras please!  Since the only communication will be through this thread, and there will be no discussion among partners, we don't want anyone feeling upset they didn't send an extra!

(This description and swap ideas were freely borrowed from Belladune and alteredmommy, with their permission and then re-borrowed from Smmarrt.)

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Bird, Bee and Butterfly on: January 31, 2017 01:00:19 PM
Had this stuck in my head all morning - one bird thing, one bee thing and one butterfly thing.

3 smalls each featuring one of these themes. Or one medium and two smalls. (I'm not really well versed in the small/medium/large kinds of swaps but we can discuss.)

The main thing is the critters and incorporating them into crafty stuffs.

Let me know what you think.
