1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Baby Pinwheel Sweater on: August 12, 2006 05:38:40 AM
I turned half of this:

Into this:

Well, not the baby part, but this doesn't seem like the appropriate place to get into how she was made. Smiley It took just over a week and this pattern is a dream to knit up. There are lots more photos and discussion on my blog.

2  Florida / Florida: Central / Worldwide Knit in Public Day: Florida edition on: June 05, 2006 11:13:45 AM
Hey chickies!!

I just wanted to make sure that you all knew about the many WWKIP Day events scheduled for Sat. June 10th. You can get individual city info here:

I'm organizing Orlando's event and would love to see any local stitchers there! Cheesy
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Life In Plastic, It's Fantastic! on: May 24, 2006 06:28:35 AM
Especially if someone teaches you to knit your own clothes.

I found this pattern (& there are a couple more) on Lion Brand's website and couldn't help but bring my new friend to SnB last night. http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/ki-dollPoncho.html

You can print out the little yarn skein labels and 'idea book', the needles I made out of plastic q-tips (they recommend using japanese toothpicks). My 3yo daughter thinks it's awesome and wants more knit clothes for Barbie. There are a couple other patterns available in the 'Chicks with Sticks' line so we'll see.
4  CROCHET / Crochetalongs / DORMANT: Color Bar Blanket from Happy Hooker on: April 06, 2006 11:42:24 AM
I probably should have started this thread when I started on the blanket, but I'm only about 1/3 finished.

If you have undertaken the 140-square challenge, post here and when one of us finally finishes we can post photos too. I've been updating my progress on my blog. Smiley
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / SnB/Debbie Stoller Swap on: March 31, 2006 06:49:26 AM
In light of her three amazing books and the on-going SFSE/SnB battle, I was thinking that a swap to pay homage to the spirit of stitching and bitching would be fun.

Crafts could include items out of the books or inspired by patterns from the books or Free to Stitch/Free to Bitch stuff - depending on your partner's interests.

What do you think??

7  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / FO: Boy Beanie & Seija Hat on: March 16, 2006 06:45:45 AM
So I just started to crochet 2 weeks ago (I've been knitting for years) and I am mistified by how much faster it is. In a matter of hours I finished each of these projects. Smiley

I've gotten so 'hooked' that yesterday I ordered all of the yarn for the Color Bar blanket. Cheesy

Details of swap:
In the proud tradition of Star Swaps 1 & 2, we embark on Round 3!

It's a pretty simple idea, send an envelope filled with star items to your partner. All of the items don't have to be handmade, but at least 2 do. And try to really fill the envelope up!! This can include fabric, buttons, stickers jewelry...as long as it has stars on it, then it's cool!

Envelope size: large flat-rate Priority Mail envelope or 9x12"ish manila envelope.

All packages must be shipped with a delivery confirmation number, and that number must be sent to me upon shipment. If you are sending Internationally, be sure to keep your shipping reciept and you can send me the Customs Number (make sure to ask for it, or its on your reciept) instead. I know (from experience) that the US post office does not offer "delivery confirmation" for Internatonal Packages, and their insurance rates are crazy high priced. If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to pm them to me.

For ideas you can check out the galleries from Round 1 & 2 here:

Round 1 Gallery: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=28988.0
Round 2 Gallery: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=62977.0

Please use the subject line "SS3" when sending messages to me. Smiley

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap: Star Swap: Round 3
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?
Favorite colors:
Colors you can't stand:
What is your craft? (sewing, crochet, etc..)
Pierced ears?
Any allergies or aversions?

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

OK, here are the sending rules, followed by partner info:

If you are eligible to get a DC (delivery confirmation number), you MUST get a DC. If you are not eligible to get a DC, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT AS PROOF THAT YOU HAVE SENT!

Please acknowledge when you receive your package by sending a pm to both me and your partner AND by posting in the Swap Gallery (will post link to thread once swap is underway).

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO POST IN THIS THREAD OR ACTIVATE THE 'NEW POST' NOTIFICATION FEATURE. This will ensure that no one gets left out of the loop as you will know when I or anyone else leaves a new message on this thread.

PLEASE DON'T SEND OUT EARLY without checking with me first! I will send out a pm to check in with everybody prior to the mail out date. When people reply to the check in pm, I will post a list on this thread. When your partner has replied, you may go ahead and send their package. Your partner will not send their package until I have heard from you! (this method seems to have worked for other organizers in keeping things on track and weeding out flakers)

If, for whatever reason, you are going to have to send late (or worse, not send at all), please let me and your partner know ASAP. Avoid negative feedback by keeping in good communication!!

green = clear to send
blue = sent
orange = rec'd

10  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / newbie spinner question . . . sorry if someone's already asked on: September 12, 2005 04:54:00 PM
so i have some wool roving that i've been spinning on a drop spindle. i had a lot on the stick and it was starting to spin a little weird, so i decided to take it off and ball it up. i balled it into a center-pull ball because i thought i read somewhere you could ply it easily this way (1st question: is that true??) but i've also read about "setting the twist"(2nd ?: what does that mean? how do you do it?) and washing your yarn (3rd ?: won't it fall apart?) before dyeing it - which is my ultimate goal. could someone help?? thanks.
