1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Easy tutorial on how to transform a 1970s maxi into a vintage-style mini dress on: June 20, 2015 12:54:53 AM
I picked up this fabulous maxi dress for a fiver at a vintage fair a few months ago. It hung forlorn in the wardrobe unworn because it was too darn insane for everyday wear.

It was too 'fancy dress' but just too good to languish on the rail.

A couple of hours of pinning, cutting and sewing and I was left with this!

Step-by-step details can be found over on ze blog, here: http://mancunianvintage.com/the-thighs-the-limit-how-to-easily-transform-a-1970s-maxi-into-a-vintage-style-mini-dress/
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Curtain couture tute link:How to make a Mary Katrantzou-inspired lampshade skirt on: March 10, 2014 02:34:43 PM
So I took some curtain material and transformed it a la Sound of Music into a cute little designer-inspired number.

Loads of pictures and a tutorial can be found here:  Grin

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Ribbed for her pleasure...! on: November 11, 2013 04:49:18 AM
Here are just some of the knitted (in rib!) goodies I've made recently including a Breton-inspired jumper and a gorgeous vintage-inspired turban...

4  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Craftivist Collective #Lovefashionhatesweatshops on: September 10, 2013 02:50:43 PM
I've been involved with a group called Craftivist Collective - who campaign using crafts.

Their latest initiative is with War on Want's 'Love Fashion Hate Sweatshops' campaign.

I made my own banner (first time stitching lettering!) which you can see here...

Let me know what you think!

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / From frumpy to fabulous! 1960s-inspired vintage dress recon on: July 01, 2013 02:20:59 PM
I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to using my sewing machine and following patterns, but what I lack in skill I make up with enthusiasm.  Grin

One of my favourite projects so far has been turning this...

... into this!

The full tutorial is available here....

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Vintage knitted collar on: September 27, 2012 08:13:07 AM
A little while back I made a detachable lacy collar from Claire Montgomeries Knitting Vintage.

It was a really straightforward pattern, and is perfect for using up the last half ball of wool.

My original images are on my old laptop... but I did manage to put them up on my blog before they disappeared.

Full pics are here:

Has anyone else made this/other detatchable collars?
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Military-style jacket on: February 21, 2012 02:28:02 PM
As part of my Christmas knitting I decided to knit my two and a half year-old nephew a jacket to keep him snuggly warm, but which also looked nice.

A month earlier I'd spotted the FOs hung-up at the stall where the pattern books were being sold and I fell in love there and then. I knew I had to make it.

Sorry about the rubbish quality of pic, but here it is:

For the record he loved it Grin

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sparkly capelet on: September 27, 2011 07:58:42 AM
It's been soooo long since I last posted here *slaps wrist* and with one thing and another (studying, post grad studying, job hunting etc etc) it's been a while since I knitted properly.

Anyway - I decided to branch out and knit something other than a scarf/hat/mittens and saw this little beauty in Vintage gifts to knit (Town & City tufted cape by Susan Crawford) and knew I had to have a go.

And here it is - modelled by yours truly (I'm no model, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like)

Front pose

Front.... again

It was a fairly quick knit and I'm really pleased with how it's come out - comments/thoughts?

The only requirement is that you dress up either as something beginning with "H" or "L" (the first letters of our names). We only decided on it tonight - and we have til the end of march :p we had a go at coming up with some stuff - I just wondered if any of you crafty lot had any ideas.....

Nelson (Horatio)
Hulk Hogan
Hobnob (I think this is what I'm planning to go as! As long as I can be a chocolate one! I have some brown leggings and plan to make a huge cardboard thing that goes over my shoulders - ideas anyone?)
Hells Angels
Hot air balloon
Human rights activist(!)
Head of state - ie King or Queen

We got tired after a while - we're gonna get a dictionary tomorrow (instead of revision for our exams!)

Any ideas welcome!!!
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Sparkly arm warmers WARNING: IMG heavy ;) on: January 24, 2007 02:24:32 PM
Well, I'd seen quite a few arm warmers that I'd liked the look of on Craftster. So when it came to me doing some leafleting in November/December in the UK (which means it's super cold!) I knew I had to have some - that would keep my arms/hands warm whilst leaving my fingers free to leaflet (they also had to be pretty) hence the choice of yarn - enjoy!
Action shot:-

Left arm:-

Right arm:-

Close up so you can see the sparkles:-

Proof there's two(!)

Yet another shot!

Hope you like! (Excuse the state of my room!)
