I've been commissioned to paint a floor for a man cave/game room. Because this project is so large but not large enough to last long enough for an OWL, I've decided to turn in the different areas of the room as separate projects. I hope this is okay. Each section of the room took me between 1 1/2 to 3 hours to complete.

Subject: History of Magic
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Sea Turtle and fishies by the door
Project Description: I painted this sea turtle and three fish by the door to the game room that I am currently painting. I was super excited to try my hand at tropical fish! I did koi fish on a floor a few years ago and this is the first time I've been asked to do tropical fish. So in this part of the room I put a sea turtle, a blue tang (hello dory!), a blue and gold angel fish?, and a puffer fish.

Subject: Transfiguration
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Message in a Bottle and Shark
Project Description: In the game room my client is going to have a pool table. Around it he wanted to have a shark coming out from the wall with its fin showing and then a message in a bottle saying "rack 'em"  These are on opposite sides of the pool table. Not pictured is a floating "Danger Shark" sign near the wall with the pool stick rack. (it took me a minute to realize that he was going for a "pool shark" theme around the pool table... Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy) The light around the shark was really bright making it kinda hard to see...and I didn't get a good picture of my clown fish...but the bottle itself took me a good thirty minutes all by itself to complete. I used a lot of water to make the wash for the shark and the bottle. And lots more to paint all the fish and stuff on the floor

and for fun there was a little pirate flag by the bar
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Sea Turtle and Tropical fishes on: January 12, 2019 01:23:51 PM
I got commissioned to paint a concrete floor this past week. And these are some of the things that he asked to be painted. I'm only about half done. I still have one more "puddle" of fish to do and a swampy bathroom to paint.

I have a sea turtle and some fish by the front door of the game room

a shark silhouette coming out from the wall under a window

A message in a bottle with some fish (this is going to be by a pool table by the way)

A pirate flag by the bar:

And because I'm proud of how they turned out a closer picture of my puffer fish and blue and gold angel fish

Thanks!  We all had a lot of fun decorating them.  Even my brother-in-law got in there and decorated a few!

Subject: Hagrid's Trees -- Lights
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Wedding Cake
Project Description: This definitely lit up the bride with joy when she received it. She was so happy! With this wedding cake, while TechnicolorAquaheart did all the decorating, I did all the baking and icing mixing and fondant rolling. It took a whole day to just do all of that! The prep work for a wedding cake, even one as small as this, was way more work than I originally thought it would be.  We used Duncan Hines cake mixes in white and devils food. To make the devil's food cake a little more dense I added an extra egg yolk per mix I used.
I used a simple icing recipe:
1 cup butter
1 cup crisco
2 tsp butter flavoring
2 tsp clear vanilla (to help preserve the pure white icing so the colors would be more vibrant)
whole bag of powdered sugar (about four cups i guess)
and 3-5 tbsp of milk
mix this all together and add milk slowly at the end until you get the consistency you need. I usually need it to hold its own peaks but not so stiff that its hard to smoothly cover the cake.
And for the fondant I always like to use wilton boxed fondant (we used a precolored black). It's got a good taste and is easy to work with.

Subject: Hagrid's Trees-- Tree Skirt
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Christmas Tree Tees
Project Description: A t-shirt is pretty functional. And adding a Christmas tree to it makes it decorative too. I really can't wear Christmas sweaters. I just get to hot in them. So I don't have a lot of festive tops to wear during the holidays. Technicolor and I decided that we would get some long sleeve tees and make some abstract Christmas tree tees to wear while visiting my dad. It was fun to make and fun to be decorated for the holiday!
5  COOKING / Dessert / Frosted Christmas Sugar Cookies on: January 01, 2019 12:47:40 PM
While visiting my mom for the Christmas holiday I made cookies and decorated them with everyone. We made the sugar cookies and then outlined them with blue buttercream icing. Then we filled in the cookies with the white quick pour icing. You have to add the sprinkles pretty quickly because the quick-pour icing sets up really fast.

We used a Wilton recipes. But I'll share them here because I couldn't find these exact recipes on the internet.

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Re: Laser cut ornaments on: January 01, 2019 12:21:24 PM
Thank you so much! I had a LOT of help. You can only cut certain plastics. Like you can't use a laser to cut vinyl records because it produces a toxic gas.

Gaudiknight: Always love your little doll dresses...wish I could pull off sewing that small for a couple of my old barbie dolls.

Subject: DADA
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Monster mask
Project Description: Kid crafts and prearranged crafts always make me feel better when I'm depressed and feeling unmotivated. It helps to have a craft that is a no brainer but still makes me make some decisions (like colors).  It makes it easier to get motivated to do my actual art again. So for this project I painted a monster mask that I found at Michael's during the Halloween season.

Project Name: Snowflake Dino Ornaments
Project Description: Winter time is a time for snow...even though we don't get much in the USA South. So I took some blue plastic dinosaurs and painted them with snowflakes in celebration of winter snows.

Project Name: Witch Mask
Project Description: Taking wood and acrylic paint, two very different materials, I painted this cute little witch mask that I found at Michael's during the Halloween season.

Subject: Muggle Studies
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Laser-cut Ornaments
Project Description: Muggles, like us wizards, like to hang pretty things from their Christmas trees. I took a workshop to help me learn how to make and produce some of these pretty ornaments. I was lead through the design process and helped make decisions to come up with these ornaments and then used a laser-cutter to cut out the final design.  The first ornament is pretty simple with a pinecone and berry design and the second ornament has got pine cones and a reindeer. Both are cut from a clear acrylic sheet. It gives them a slightly bottle green look from the sides. I'm sorry the pictures aren't more clear but I wanted to show them hanging from the garland.

Subject: Potions
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Red and Brown Pumpkin
Project Description: Using warm colors I painted a pumpkin for the Thanksgiving holiday. I tried to stick to mostly reds and browns, throwing in a few oranges. I love how it turned out.
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Masks for the holidays on: December 31, 2018 02:33:23 PM
For the holidays I took masks that I found at Michael's and painted them up for some photo opportunities. Though I didn't actually get to take pics with them yet.    Shocked Cheesy  Roll Eyes

I did a Christmas tree for Christmas, and a Witch and Monster for Halloween!

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Laser cut ornaments on: December 31, 2018 02:27:21 PM
I attended a laser cutting workshop to learn how to design and cut with a laser-cutting machine. I had a ton of fun and ended up with these two ornaments. I had a ton of help with the designing part...I don't think I could repeat it if I tried...I'll need a bunch of practice before I could actually make it on my own! I know the pictures aren't the best but I was so proud of the results that I just had to share. The first picture is of pinecones and berries. and the second picture is of a reindeer. They are both cut out of clear plastic.

Project Name: Pastel Pumpkin...sort of
Project Description: So the question I asked myself was, Can I paint a pastel pumpkin and it look good? The answer was I couldn't get myself to stick with the pastel theme. I ended up with a pretty pumpkin but it wasn't pastel.

Project Name: Peanut Butter Cookies
Project Description: Nothing is better than fresh cookies to keep you alert and comfortable while watching the Mooncalves dance through the moon lit night. My cookie of choice this night happened to be peanut butter cookies!
Recipe: 1 Cup smooth peanut butter
           1/2 cup butter, softened
           1/2 cup white sugar
            3/4 cup brown sugar
           1 egg
           1 cup flour
           1 tsp vanilla
           1/2 tsp salt
           1/2 tsp baking powder
Mix peanut butter and butter together with mixer until smooth. Then gradually add all other ingredients. Blend until smooth.
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spoon batter onto greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a criss cross fork print. Bake for 10 minutes.

Project Name: Dish Scrubbies for Candice
Project Description: Making these dish scrubbies used a lot of muscle memory.  Crochet is so much easier once your muscles get used to the movements. I made these two scrubbies for my sister, Candice.
