1  Re: Winter Book Swap 2019 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by irid3sc3nt on: December 13, 2019 09:17:22 AM
I have the flu and was super happy to have energy to open my package from gozer!

First, the book.  It's called "Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers" by Mary Roach.  This has been on my To Read list on Goodreads for a while.  I love me some micro-histories!

Here's a little Goodreads blurb:
Stiff is an oddly compelling, often hilarious exploration of the strange lives of our bodies postmortem. For two thousand years, cadaverssome willingly, some unwittinglyhave been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. In this fascinating account, Mary Roach visits the good deeds of cadavers over the centuries and tells the engrossing story of our bodies when we are no longer with them.

All my downtime will be spent delving into this!

She also sent a pile of magazines for me to create ATC collages.  They look so interesting, though!  I will definitely be reading these before I craft with them.  Look at that cute little otter, awwwwwwwwww!

I had written in my Q that I liked chocolate with pretzel and chocolate with caramel and she sent me both!  I have not seen the Tony's chocolonely bar before.  Look how chonky it is!  It's funny because that is my husband's nickname.  Good thing he's not a sweets guy, because I'm eating this bad boy all by myself.  In moderation, of course.... lol!

Hello Kitty lip love!  She must have known that I like Hello Kitty.  I haven't seen this before and chocolate mint sounds delicious.  Er, lipsmacking good.

Aaaaaaaand, the crafty bookmarks!  I love tiny deer for decorating for Christmas (and some stay out the rest of the year) so both of these are fabulous.  The first has a sparkly, glittery background and is laminated--perfect because my husband hates glitter getting everywhere.  The second is so sweet with that saying.  I love the long legs.  Geez, wish I had those legs.  It is also laminated so I feel safe using it in my books and not afraid about damaging it.

Thank you, gozer,  for making my first book swap a super happy one  Kiss Cheesy

I have received quite a few ATCs!

This is from calluna for my "plotting cat" theme.  Just look at that sneaky face.  I love the poem, the composition, and bright orange.

She also included a photo of herself as a child as a bonus!  I haven't seen this done before, so I'm pleased to have one.  It is not actually a parallelogram, it's just angled funny in the photo.

This is from LadybugsAndBumblebees for my "kitty toe beans" theme.  It is titled "Toe Beans vs. Jellybeans"  She used a vintage image of an Easter Bunny!  That polka dot background fits very well.  My kitty's toe beans would be mostly licorice with a hint of strawberry.  Cheesy

This is from bunny1kenobi for my "jorogumo (half lady half spider)" theme.  This is Stella.  She is quite a shapely lady and I like that her abdomen details and hair match in color.  She is wonderfully creepy.

This is also from bunny1kenobi for my "monster love" theme.  This is titled "Seymour & Audrey".  They are sharing a meal like Lady and the Tramp, except it's not quite spaghetti they are eating...

This is from geekgirl1000100 for my theme that includes one specific image (linked in the theme list).  The image is this weird cat lady.  It's hilarious that she is prancing among the meadow of beautiful flowers.  There are dots of gold among them, which may not be visible in the photo.  It's quite lovely.

Thank you, ladies, for all of the wonderful ATCs and the extra cards that you sent!

I have received several ATCs!

Thanate chose my owls theme and created this regal owl.  It has a lot of detail in the feathers.

Thanate also chose my fancy witch shoes theme to create this pair of tall heeled boots.  I love the color, the reverse side is also pretty.

And, bonus, thanate's daughter made an ATC!  It is a "T-Rex dressed up as 'spook girl' and eating Halloween candy (she's wearing a white sweater)"  It is so sweet!!!  I'm particularly fond of that eyeshadow.

Curiousfae chose my zentangle with orange elements theme and made me these next two ATCs.  One is actually a bonus, since she said she had so much fun making the first.  Y'all with your tiny line work.  I'm envious.  The first one makes me think of people dancing!

Thank you, ladies!

Here is my ATC from Linda P.  She chose my Georgie the Ghost theme from the 1940s book series by Robert Bright.  This is Georgie in the attic with one of the mice that live there.  He has the Best in Costume ribbon.  This would be from the Georgie's Halloween book.  I'm so happy to have a Georgie!

This is my ATC from anna.wahnsinn.  She chose my Munsters theme (tv show from the 1960s).  Here is Lily, the mother.  You can kind of see in the photo that she is colored with metallics.  What did you use, anna.wahnsinn??

From pioneer9 came this kawaii bat, from my kawaii Halloween theme.  Isn't it the cutest???  Very kawaii.  That cursive writing is also fab.

Pioneer9 also sent this ATC titled "Crow Zentangle".  She had picked my theme zentangle with orange elements.  I think it is so lovely that she included my crow theme as well.  I hope you used a ruler for this because if you free-styled these lines I'm going to eat my hat.

Thank you, ladies!

I received from anna.wahnsinn for my Halloween Hello Kitty theme.  It's a cut out with an orange lining so it can see through in the light.  Reminds me of a scherenschnitte.  I did something similar for one of the Vintage Halloween swaps a long long long time ago.  So hard to cut!  I'm very appreciative of this ATC.

Thank you, anna.wahnsinn!

More ATCs!

The first one is from gozer.  She chose my "Draw this in your style:  Marceline from Adventure Time".  She said she had never seen the show and took inspiration from images.  Marceline is so pretty!   It's a good composition and look at her delicate fingers!

This next one is from greybird.  She chose my fancy witch shoe theme.  The light from my lightbox made this weird wavy pattern in the background.. not sure why.  It has green edging and a cut-out moon in the side.  It is patent leather with a silver buckle.  And, whoa, the height!  That witch had better be styling for the runway, because those are some statement heels.

Thank you, ladies!

I have received more ATCs!

This one is from gozer.  She chose my Draw This theme, which included a link to a pic of a doll.  She said she didn't think she got the mouth right, but I think she is perfect!

These next two are from craftylittlemonkey.  She chose my #31 theme and included the extra!  She also sent a lot of paper for crafting and tiny envelopes.  Both of these are different and I enjoy them both.  That's a lot of 'both'.

Thank you, ladies!

This is still the best one I've seen out in the wild.  It matches the building!

Here is my ATC from kwality570!  The theme was "Monster love...always so hard to find" and this is titled "Monster Love"  You may not be able to tell from the photo, but the black outline is raised and shiny.  We had a side conversation about how she does it.  Skill and a tiny brush, whoa.  Those colors are super vibrant, too.  The monsters look so happy to meet each other.

Thank you, kwality!

I have received from Linda P!

I'm in my car opening up my mail (because our mailboxes are lumped together in suburbia) and I open up Linda's envelope with the back of the ATCs facing me (unintentional).  The first I see is this guy:

And I'm all like "Awwww, he's cute!"  His title is "Grim Moon".

Then I read her index card saying how she had fun with the first so she made a bonus card for me.  Fun with the first?  I see the title of this next card "Death takes a spin..."

And I laugh SO HARD in my car.  It made my day.  This is from my theme "Death takes a vacation" inspired by a book titled "Death Wins a Goldfish".  She made Death in the style as in the book and it's spinning the wheel on "The Price is Right".
Omg, how did you know?!  I have very fond memories of watching that show as a child.  It's so razzle-dazzle and fun.  I hope Death wins.

Thank you, Linda P!
