21  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: tissue boxes on: July 18, 2005 08:57:37 PM
I hang onto those also!  Some things I have heard of are making gift tags out of them, which could be especially cute if you could use the rest of the box as a gift box to match!  There are some patterns for making gift boxes, I am sure.  I made up my mind never to buy another gift bag, box or tag after I have used up my supply, because you can make creative stuff out of so many things!  Other ideas: bookmarks, punch a hole, thread a ribbon or string through, ribbon or yarn holders, if the hole in the Kleenex box is small enough for the ribbon holder or yarn skein to stay in, cut into doll furniture, use to make accordion fans for little girls...TishaLee

I have a bunch of those too and the original jewelry almost never ends up in them! They usually ARE ugly colors!  I wonder if you could use fabric glue to re-decorate them and make them into gift boxes?  Or paint them with fabric paint.  They are really kind of cool because of the way a lot of them snap shut so well.....if you take out the little holder things inside, you could probably keep beads, earring backs, saftey pins, anything tiny in them. I will think more about it!  TishaLee

I love Duct Tape's suggestion, but I don't sew...okay...I just don't WANT to sew! Oh, except for buttons...I love to sew those all over the place and sometimes even opposite a buttonhole!...Would it work to plug off the edges with fabric paint? Or singe them? because the cuff part of the sock is still usually fine and the other part I use for rags and for painting but I can see making the cuffs and still using the other part.  Thank you D.T.  TishaLee

Ha! I thought I replied to this post yesterday but I think I forgot to hit 'post'!  I wanted to know if they are the thicker heavy magnets or the slimmer plastic kind because I would do different things with each.  Also if they are the heavy ones, do they have holes?  You can glue lots of odd things onto magnets to make unique fridge or file cabinet magnets!  The stronger ones you can make into 'fishing poles' for kids to 'fish' for light objects or cards on paper clips.  I did this when I worked with Special Ed. kids. Just tied the magnet (the heavy duty kind with the hole in the middle) with some fish line and attached it to...I think it might have been a wooden tinker toy but you could use any type of stick. I know there are other things to do with them, just need to know what kind you have!  TishaLee

Dang the luck!  Just took a look at the pins I acquired and although they are the 'two legged' peg type, they don't have round heads!  Well they are round but like, flat!  Too small to even paint features on.  But they do have these holes running straight down through the top of the 'heads', so I might be able to stick a slim wire or wooden dowel in it to attach a wooden bead head.  Thanks for the info. on the stands all!  TishaLee

GloryB...where can I find the stands for the dolls? I've never seen them but then I've never looked for them either as I never knew they existed!  I just got some of those 'dolly pegs' freecycled to me because I always wanted to make little dolls out of them, but figured I would just have to make stands myself.  Thanks!  TishaLee

I have some that I have cut up that I plan to make a collage with.  I cut out the face cards and am going to glue them on some cardstock and draw goofy cartoon bodies on them.  I also plan on using some to mod-podge onto a wooden tea crate that can be used to keep cards in.  You could stack poker chips togetherand glue them together and to the bottom of the tea crate as legs.  Or you could use dice for legs.  Saw the dice idea on the HGTV site. Might  be a cute gift for a card shark...hey! There's an idea! make an outline of a shark and glue the cards to it, cutting them down to fit!  Then naturally you would have to decorate the mat and frame to match!  Then there are always greeting cards, bookmarks, gift tags.  Or cut out the little heart, spades, clubs or diamonds and make earrings, charm bracelets or a pendant out of them.  Wow, sometimes I amaze myself when I have insomnia!  TishaLee

I would be!  Especially if they're colorful...mine are this boring grey!  What are you interested in to swap for them?  TishaLee

I am thinking of gluing a bunch together and making a 'House of Cards'. This one company seems to be under the impression that I have good credit and they keep sending me the same fake cards.  Pre-approved they say.  Before I had those kind of phone calls blocked, they would call and say I was pre-approved and I would say, "HA! That's what YOU think!"  Stopped 'em dead in their tracks!  But they still send those fake cards, I guess in hopes that I will fill out an application so they can turn me down! I think making a 'house of cards' would be a cool social statement since so many people get in trouble with credit cards in this country!  TishaLee
