31  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Drawstring deck bags + thread catcher (it's sort of a bag) on: July 16, 2017 01:52:09 PM
The owner of my local game shop asked if I could make some bags for him to give out as prizes at his next Pokemon tournament. He specified that he wanted "deck box bags": drawstring bags large enough to hold a standard sized deck box with enough room for counters and coins. I told him that I could as soon as I headed to JoAnn Fabrics (it's five minutes from his shop).
So a trip to JoAnn's and a few hours later and I had five bags for him. Yes, he asked for four but I made an extra for him because he LOVES Pokemon, especially Pikachu. Smiley

The bags together:

Doctor Who bag:

A friend saw the deck bags at the LGS and asked if I could custom make one for him. He wanted it tall enough to fit his EDH deck box. Since EDH boxes hold 100 cards and have a compartment in the bottom for storing dice, they're a bit bigger/taller than a standard deck box, which holds 60 cards, which means I had to modify the pattern. I realize the Tardis print is upside-down but it's right-side up on the other side: the bag is cut on a fold so that there's not a seam along the bottom to allow the box to sit flat.

Thread catcher:

The first bag I made, I goofed in my math and accidentally made it too short to add a drawstring. So instead of jury-rigging it to make it tall enough, I decided I would use it as a thread catcher since I needed one anyway.

Prompt: July 5 -Guild of the Boring and Unnoticed
Team: Clan of the Creators
Project Name: LSU key fob
I made this key fob for the fiancee of the friend who got the LSU wallet. I had wanted to make her something but wasn't sure what to make until I saw the key fob kit when I was picking up a zipper. It took about 30 minutes to make this and only took that long because I was trying to avoid singeing my fingers while turning the 1/4" seams. And I had to rip out the stitches at one point because I sewed the seam super wonky. I hope the next one I make doesn't take that long because it's a bit embarrassing to take THAT LONG on something so simple Tongue

Prompt: July 3 - Accountant Sea Guild
Team: Clan of the Creators
Project Name: Sewing basket
I made this to keep the toddler out of my sewing stuff: scissors, thread, bobbins, etc. It saves money because I don't have to buy a sewing basket AND if the toddler can't reach the scissors, he can't cut himself and wind up needing stitches Tongue

Good idea, utm, for everyone to make an item for a set. That way baby can wear love from more people at once Cheesy

Bunny, those colors are pretty! And I like the stitch you used: makes it look like braids Smiley

ZombieLili, that pillow is gorgeous! Shocked It's simple, yet elegant (which is my favorite sort of elegant).

My man wears sandals with socks, he does not like shoes and will don those sandals as early and as long into chilly weather as is bearable. Personally, I find it uncomfortable but that's the only consideration. I care not one whiff for the dictates of fashion, what is "trendy" is often the most inconceivably hideous arraignment. I just do what I want.
I'm not above quietly making fun of things I see that look ridiculous to me though, ha!

I am the same. The socks/sandals thing is just something I've always thought wrong. But I hate shoes and will go barefoot at home and wear flip-flops out and about until I can't bear the cold. I think they look silly with socks on.

I wonder what Ernest would think of the men's romper trend?

My latest projects:

They're drawstring deck bags Smiley I made them for my local game store by request of the owner. He's bought them to give out as prizes for a Pokemon tournament later this month: top four winners get a bag, the fifth is for him because he loves Pokemon, especially Pikachu.
The colors are off because this is from my Instagram and I used a filter to try to fix the colors (didn't work).

Prompt: July - 1. Threadneedle Guild
Team: Clan of the Makers
Project Name: Drawstring Pokemon deckbag
I'm so happy that I was able to get the bag the size I needed on the second try! The drawstrings are just crocheted chains because my sewing machine kept mangling the ones I tried sewing for it. Dang thing will sew teeny doll clothes but eats drawstrings. Go figure Roll Eyes

That does make sense. Better to possibly ruin a pair of sandals with labor than your nice shoes, which also typically aren't comfy enough for working.
I looked at that map and immediately said "HOLY SHIT!"  Shocked
Pardon the language but he was a badass for being that brave. Anyone who stayed during that was brave as hell.
