i wasn't expecting to get my yarn until next week, but it arrived yesterday!  hurrah!

my camera didn't really do the colors justice...they're not quite so blah in real life.  i'm really eager to get started as this is my first sweater, but i'm not sure i'll have time this weekend.  (i'm working at a wedding show all weekend).  maybe i can at least get a gauge swatch done, and figure out which size to make.  yay!  Cheesy

i also received my cd from something weird a few days ago, but hadn't had a chance to post pics.  so without further ado, i present  XXX-mas:

I received the best felted necklace from shsupernova this week!

My clothes are really monochromatic so I really love how bright the colors are.  I wore it to school today and everyone wanted to touch it and see it closer - it was a big hit.

Thanks again, shsupernova, I LOVE it!

your welcome!  i snapped a pic of it too before i sent it.  i think it's a little bit more clear:

i also received my origami kit from roxybadoxy!  she sent me some papers, and the cutest little hair pins!

and a close-up of the hair pinsl:

thanks!! Smiley

9  Re: what's in a name?/input on business name & logo please! :) in Crafty Business Discussion by shsupernova on: November 08, 2005 08:14:01 AM
thanks so much everyone for all the great input!  Cheesy  i think we are leaning towards twinkle tree at the moment.  but i do like cherrystars a lot too....

1. To me, your names and logos (I like them!) evoke "quirky cute" - is that your style? If so, then they'll fit well. If not, then I would go for something that matches your style better.

4. You should also check your state's list of registered business names. In Illinois I did this online. It was through the Secretary of State's office. That's important if you ever incorporate later.

quirky cute is definitely what i was going for.  glad to hear it worked!  i can't seem to find a place to search for registered business names in maine.  but i did do a search at yellowpages.com, and no other businesses came up with the name twinkle tree, so that's good at least.

You should really try to get a .com instead of .us, etc. because you can't deny that most of us assume a business has a dot.com . Also, if you can, try to avoid dashes and underscores especially if you're going to be advertising through word of mouth. It's much easier to say your website as "the twinikle tree .com" vs. "twinkle underscore tree .com" which can be a mouthful and takes away from your name! Smiley This just comes from a little background in marketing. Good luck!

that's a really good point about using dashes & underscores.  since twinkletree.com is taken, i wonder what the next best domain would be?  twinkletreeshop.com?  or maybe twinkletreedesigns.com?  hmmm....

Hi, I am a graphic designer and thought I would give you some input. Business logos and branding are my specialty so I hope I can be of some help to you.

You already have a great start. The strongest names to me are Twinkle Tree and Cherry Stars. Cinnamon star is cute, but would be better for a food business IMHO and the other two are very 'new age', which even if that is what you are going for they don't seem all that exciting to me. (Not trying to hurt your feelings, just wanted to give you my own opinions.) That said your Cherry Stars is almost there as far as logo, you might want to play around with the the text but the graphic is very striking. The Twinkle Tree is neat but it is a very complex image for a logo. I think simplifying the tree would be great and as someone mentioned earlier just having a star hanging from the tree branch would be really nice.

Good luck!

those are my two favorite too.  ooh, new age is not at all what i'm going for.  it hadn't occured to me that those names sounded new agey.  this is why we ask for input.  Smiley   i totally agree with you about the twinkle tree logo.  i realized after i made it that it was much too complex, and when it gets shrunken down, it loses a lot.  i've been working on a more simplified version of it:

but i also still really like cherrystars, i think mostly because i like the look of the logo. i will be somewhat bummed if we don't end up using it.  and it also has the advantage of the domain cherrystars.com being available.  but i do like twinkletree a lot too, though.  Undecided   decisions, decisions!
