3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / How good is this cotton flannel? on: October 02, 2006 07:47:24 PM

I'm thinking of getting some of the fabric.com cotton flannel solids to make some simple skirts and pants for my daughter. Does anyone have experience with it? I'm wondering how it washes, how much it pills, etc. Thanks!

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / funky skirt -- i wonder.... on: September 15, 2006 04:54:25 PM

i think this is adorable, and i've been trying to figure out how it's constructed.  what do you guys think?  is this just a basic tiered skirt with layers?  i can't figure out how one might do the front -- ruching with ribbon?  a drawstring?
you can tell that i'm such a beginner that i have no business wondering how to make something like this! Roll Eyes

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Duro Dress pattern comparisons? on: September 02, 2006 04:35:09 AM
Hi all,

Trying to decide between the three Duro-ish dress patterns:  Mccalls 5137, Simplicity 4072,and New Look 6515. I've looked at some of the threads on each, and am wondering which of the three has the most clear instructions, construction, etc. for a beginner.  Any opinions on which company might do the best job of it?

Thank you!

6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / some dolls, some animals, and some other things on: July 22, 2006 05:36:51 AM
i'm working on my toymaking skills, and wanted to share a few projects:

the most recent is this big-eared "new yorkie" dog based on a sewingstars pattern:

finger puppets:

a lamb (free pattern at patternbee.com):

a scottie dog:
(free pattern at allsorts.typepad.com)

and i'm working on another set of  these "russian dolls" in felt; they are a lot of fun to do.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Skirty, and a little shirty (links fixed) on: July 06, 2006 04:23:12 AM
Hi all,

Here are a few more skirts that I've done recently:
From New Look 6434, using some Nigerian fabric:

a few more simple a-lines (i added trim from mantofev.com to my daughter's version):

this one has embroidery using a hedgehog transfer from patternbee.com:

and since my first attempt at a top yesterday was a total disaster, i'm letting this smock count as my first top (vintage Simplicity pattern 5603):
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Amy Butler Nappy Bag -- Missing Pattern Page? on: June 18, 2006 05:19:16 AM

Hi all,

I just got the Nappy Bag pattern from Pattern Review on Friday. I only have one page of pattern pieces -- is that right?Huh  I remember that with the Rural Messenger Bag, there were some pieces that you made yourself, but this doesn't seem right.

I feel like there should be 2, and I'm wondering if a page wasn't included or got thrown away already (which is very likely in this house)
