1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Varnishing on silk screen prints on: October 21, 2012 07:50:09 AM
Can I use a solvent based varnish mixed with linseed oil brushed over the top of a gloss vinyl ink silk screen print on paper? I have done it and, four days later, it is still tacky. I am starting by brushing the paper with a background colour using the EPI gloss vinyl ink thinned with the recommended thinner, onced this is dry, I silk screen the image on top using the gloss vinyl ink, then once dry, I brush the varnish on top. The varnish, where it sits on the background colour dries no problem but where it sits on the silk screened graphic is still tacky. I wouldnt bother to varnish but it adds a nice glossy consistency to the whole thing. Any ideas?... Thanks.
