1  Crochet & Found item Necklaces in Crochet: Completed Projects by ria421 on: September 23, 2012 10:02:46 AM
These were so easy to make, and so much fun! Crochet circles, sewed them together, and used vintage buttons and some pieces I purchased at Michael's. To add a finishing touch, I covered the backs with some fabric to match.

I've also made these as barrettes, which seem to be more popular.

2  Art and Craft? in Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs by ria421 on: September 20, 2012 06:41:59 PM
Hi everyone, I have a general question for those of you who are more on the arts end of the crafting business.

I am an illustrator as my main interest (and that is what my returning customers know me for), but I also knit and crochet to sell. I like to try to make my art and my handmade items match in style, and I think that having tangible items at my table brings potential print customers in.

However, I've read a lot of things that say that you should only focus on one item or specialty, so not to distract your customers. Really, the handmade items are a lot less for me income wise, but not everyone wants just art. I don't want to totally go away from selling these items, but  I also don't want to confuse people and push them away from my booth.

Personally, I think if your space is not cluttered and has some sort of theme, you're okay to have art integrated with other items.

What is your opinion on this?

Here's some images of my booth from a craft show last spring, my space has evolved into something different, but this will give you an idea of what I mean:

3  Crochet Earrings in Crochet: Completed Projects by ria421 on: September 18, 2012 09:21:10 PM
I've always loved crocheting with thread, and I've always loved big earrings. So to ease the stress on my ears, and satisfy my craving for big and colorful, I started using my doily & granny square patterns, along with my own designs as earrings.

4  New Funky Artist! Check it out! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by ria421 on: September 16, 2012 11:07:25 PM
Hi Everyone! I am new to craftster and I mostly work in colored pencil and oil paint... I love that saturated color look along with the retro-vintage distortion and style.

John Lennon is my most recent caricature, and one of my favorites.

If you have any questions about technique, please feel free to ask!! I love to make people smile with my art, so enjoy!  Grin
