1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / How Do I Treat & Preserve Dried (Brown) Corn Husks for Crafts? on: October 13, 2013 08:58:09 PM
I've gotten some just harvested dried (brown) corn husks from a Uncle's crops and want to use them for crafts but have three questions..

1) How do I treat them for mildew or mold - just in case?

2) How do I treat them for bugs?

3) How do I preserve them for crafting purposes; I want large pieces for a wreath or corn doll so no shredding!

Thanks

2  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Discussion and Questions / Fire-PROOF DIY Clay Recipe.... anyone? on: October 13, 2013 08:52:50 PM
I am trying  find a do it yourself recipe (preferably  made out of household/common materials but it's just a preference) to make claythat I can mold into a bowl-shape.

The problem is that I do NOT have a kiln.

This is a big problem because 1) The clay can't be the kind that needs a kiln to be dried (Duh!),

and MOST IMPORTANTLY

2)  I want the end result bowl to be Fire-PROOF .... (if you were a genie and I would add another request I would say that I'd like it to be a reciep for clay that won't shatter/come apart over time as this will be a gift.)

.....sorry for the tough one!  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Distilled Water ... Help! on: December 23, 2012 12:37:58 AM
I need to know how to make distilled water WITHOUT the fancy equipment or by buying it.  I'm using it for a snow globe!  I heard that you could make Distilled Water by boiling water and then letting it cool.

Is this true?

If not... ideas please!

Thanks!
