1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Boxes with Needlework inserts? on: April 25, 2010 06:28:47 AM
I'm looking for an online supplier of boxes, wood or ceramic, that have lids which allow you to insert your own needlework piece.  I'm sorry I don't have a picture to explain... maybe someone knows what I mean??
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Seeking picture frame source on: July 26, 2009 08:08:56 AM
I'm seeking a source for very inexpensive picture frames (4x4, wood, black, ideally under $5 each because I need 26 of them!).  I've looked at Ikea, AC Moore, Michaels, did a Google search-- I'm hoping one of my fellow Craftsters knows of a reliable online source for frames at rock bottom prices!

Thanks!
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Ideas for Recipes in Jars? on: November 05, 2008 10:55:49 AM
I'm thinking of making food gifts for relatives this year and was thinking of those jars of dry ingredients as a possibility.  Here's two in this post:

Anyone have suggestions for recipes-- soups, cookies, beverages-- that would work well in this jar format?
4  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / FOC and the buyout on: May 29, 2008 10:17:26 AM
Now that Craftster's been bought out I feel weird renewing my FOC subscription (which expired today and got yanked fast!).  I became an FOC for Leah's sake-- to show appreciation for this one woman show and help support the site.  I was wondering what, if any, advantages there are to renewing now that we've "gone corporate."  I could always wait, I suppose, until some specific FOC advantages are hammered out.  Any thoughts on this?
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Question about "Image Heavy" posts on: July 29, 2007 08:45:03 AM
Just wondering, are there any rules about image heavy posts?  Is there a point at which a post is considered too image heavy?  I notice some folks like to supplement their posts with multiple views or "action" shots of the crafted item or sometimes just add in pics of their pets or whathaveyou.  I'm not complaining, just curious.
6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / translate Portuguese recipe? on: May 25, 2007 06:37:02 AM
Hi all-- I have a recipe for Portuguese Sweet bread that I would like to have translated into English.  Are there any Portuguese-speaking Craftsters who might be able to help with this?  Here's the only copy of the recipe I have:

Thanks!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Eddie Bauer does crochet on: April 26, 2007 04:46:06 AM
I was surprised to see some decent looking crocheted sweaters on eddiebauer.com.  Too often I find crocheted sweaters are sort of bulky or granny looking but these are not bad at all.  Anyone know of patterns similar to any of these sweaters?
8  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Hey UK! Mushy Peas? on: April 20, 2007 06:01:24 AM
My husband loves English mushy peas.  I've never had them so I don't know what he's talking about really.  I tried googling for a recipe but the results are all so very different I don't know what would be an authentic version.  Can anyone offer an authentic mushy pea recipe?

thanks!
9  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Finding moderators? on: April 15, 2007 05:44:48 AM
Is there a quick and easy way to find out which moderators are online at any given moment?  Or do we have to search for them individually to check their online status?

thanks!

10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Idea for improving the swap process? on: February 21, 2007 04:02:51 AM
Long post folks, please bear with me.

edited to add: I am in NO way suggesting that people's CRAFTS be rated!

Last night, my husband and I were talking about the Craftster swap process and what a wonderful an idea it is but also how terrible it is when someone gets the bad end of a swap (I dont just mean those folks who get flaked on but also those who received sub-par stuff).  We were brainstorming various ways to protect against that sort of thing.  After much debate, we devised a sort of ranking system for swappers.  Heres how it would work:

1. Ten people sign up for the DIY Craft Kit Swap
2. Ten people swap their DIY kits
3. Ten people must post pictures of what they received
4. At the end of the swap, each of the ten swappers then rates what each person got on a 1-10 scale.  (This would be done anonymouslymaybe in a way similar to Craftster challenge voting perhaps?)
5. Each swapper would then have a 1-10 rating determined by averaging the votes.  This rating would stick in the swappers profile (sort of the way Ebay sellers have a star-ranking system).

Not every swap would need to be a ranked swap (I think for those swaps where quality is subjectiveATC swaps, for examplerankings would be unnecessary.  However, for supply swaps, kit swaps, etc, they would be more appropriate.)

Potential benefits of this system:

Swap organizers could pair swappers according to like ratings (an organizer would probably choose not to pair a person rated 2 with a 10, for example)

Swappers in ranked swaps would have an additional incentive to send something great.

People entering into ranked swaps or personal swaps would have a bit more insurance against flakers or sub-par swappers.  A person might choose to only do personal swaps with ranked swappers, for example.

I know this idea will generate thoughtful debate.  Of course, I wouldnt want to see anything implemented that might be detrimental to the sense of community around here. However, I know  a bad swap experience can cause a lot of animosity and disappointment.  It would be great to find ways to improve that process.  Lets hear your thoughts!!
