1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / I'm looking for vibrant, hot pink dye...what's the best brand? on: March 04, 2007 02:17:06 PM
Hey Craftsters! Long time no see >.<. My senior prom is coming up and I'm having a lot of trouble finding affordable prom dresses in my (plus)size and I can't sew, so I plan on just trying to find a light-colored base dress and altering it. The problem is, I have my heart set on something hot, vibrant pink. I mean, as obnoxiously bright pink as possible ^_^. Something like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v13/greenwhimsy/awesomedress.jpg. Is it possible for me to achieve this with a dye? And if so, which brand? I've only ever used Rit dye and I don't think it will make it. Any ideas would be highly appreciated!
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Another girl looking for party advice? Why help me? I've got cookies.... on: May 10, 2006 06:53:36 PM
Sorry, I can't actually give you cookies, as you may have guessed, but I totally would if I could!
Anyway, I originally planned on having the Most Awesome Harry Potter Party Ever to celebrate my sevententh birthday, but I've been sick for a while (I'm actually starting Home and Hospital this Monday, which is a home-schooling program since I've missed so much class, lately), and I don't think think I have time . There for, the HP party is postponed 'til the seventh month dies (Harry's birthday :]), when I'll hopefully be feeling back to normal.

But yeah, the problem lies in that I still want to have some sort of party, but it can't be too high mantience because I'm still sick and my birthday lands right in the end of finals week (June 8th)

Um, I hate all text posts so here's a picture:

As you can see in the above, it's a pirates life for me Wink. This is one theme I'm concidering, because the one thing all of my friends have in common is a love of pirates. There have been lots of "HelpMeI'mHavingAPiratePartyPleaseHelp!!!!" threads, here, but none of them have really gone very far (yep, I've already looked them up :\)

Also, I'm very much in the WB show, Supernatural; Harry Potter, as I said, Japanese Fruits/decora styles; Faeries and toadstools;   and The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Oh, and I'm turning seventeen Roll Eyes

So, yeah, any ideas would be appreciated! Any! I plan on about 10-15 (at the most) of my friends showing up, if that helps Smiley
Since I won't be able to see my friends, much, now that I can't go to school, this get-togrther really means a lot to me!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / FRUiTSY pom-pom bag with Troll doll! on: March 26, 2006 08:52:52 PM
I didn't take a before picture, but this bag started out as a blue denim number with a silk screen of Cinderella on the front. Cinderella's cool and all, but the bag was pretty boring as a whole, and the strap was too short for my liking, so I decided to make it a little more me Smiley.

Sorry for hugeness Undecided:

What do you think Grin?
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Painted Constellation Map Stool on: March 12, 2006 11:53:18 AM
My school's annual Celebration party (of what? Us, I guess  Roll Eyes)is coming up and this year the carpentry kids are making stools and the visual arts kids (that's me Wink) are painting them to be sold to party attendees. We were just given plain, ready-to-paint stools and creative freedom. Here's what I came up with:

I started by painting the whole thing with a glossy latex paint, then spraypainting it with bits of purple, pink, powder blue, and white, to give it some celestial dimension. Then I copied a constellation map onto the seat of the stool with white paint pen and added some interesting space facts I found on the Internet. Basically, I wanted to make something that was not only neat-looking, but kind of practical and a good conversation starter.

So what do you guys think Smiley?
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Colorful Unicorn and Heart Storage Cabinet on: February 21, 2006 06:49:15 PM
I just realized that despite being a member of this board for nearly a year, now, this is my first real showing of my crafts (one swap doesn't count, I think Smiley)

I've been needing somewhere to store some of my extra art and craft supplies and I saw something special in this old, country-cottage cabinet sitting near my front door:

1 coat of primer, a trip to Home Depot, 2 coats of black paint, a hand-cut stencil, and one search for lost hardwear later, here's what I came up with:

Thanks for looking Cheesy!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / slightly cheesy heart dresser to...? on: February 19, 2006 09:03:48 AM
So my mom's letting me take this little storage dresser up to my room to hold my art and crafting supplies and I want to so something cool with it. It has these neat heart cut-outs, as you can see in the picture, and I want to continue with that theme. I have a few ideas, but none are really clicking, so I thought I'd share it with you guys Smiley:

See? Simple, country, but cute. Any ideas for taking this out of the Little House On the Prairie and making it a little more rock and roll?
7  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Rainbow eye make-up on: February 18, 2006 11:19:35 AM
I just love rainbows (and glitter and rock music and cartoons Wink)!
So the other day I was just posessed to stripe my eyes in rainbow colors! Here's the result:

I actually didn't use make-up (I could have, but it would have been a pain to get it to stay in place Tongue). It's really just thin-tipped washable markers, plus a little bit of opalecent white shadow, black mascara, and some pink glitter Smiley

So tell me, do you dig it Grin?
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Darker Side of Harry Potter/GoF-inspired swap? on: November 18, 2005 10:04:16 PM
I know, I know: HP swap part 4 is still in the works, and everything, but I saw The Goblet of Fire last night and I'm still reeling from the wonderfulness of it all. I really like how it showed a darker, almost gothic, sometimes, aspect of the series. Also, Harry starts being sarcastic and argumentative and I love Pissy Harry Grin.
So is anyone else interested in exploring the Darker side of HP more completely? I find the recent "Darker Side of Wonderland" swap pretty inspirational.
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Late Wedding Gift for Secretive Brother and New Sis-In-law on: October 16, 2005 07:48:34 PM
Guess what happened during my brother, Pat, and his girlfriend's (Julia) visit, yhis after noon.
Well the long-time couple finally anounced to my mother, my dad, and myself that they have been married for the past 8 months.

Nice of them to fill us in, right?

Well, I feel like I should make them a wedding gift, or seperate gifts for the both of them, but I need some help coming up with ideas.

(^random picture of a sloth, to keep your interest. Iddnit cute?)

Alright, for background info, you should know that Pat and Julia are both 23-year-old college students. Pat studies Geology and Soil Science in Graduates school while Julia studies science and (mostly computer) art as an undergrad.
Pat likes a lot of cartoons, such as Futurama, Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost, and Spongebob Squarepants.
Julia's into fantasy stuff, like Fae, wizards, unicorns, etc. Some of her favourite movies are The Princess Bride, Legend, and  The Last Unicorn.
Both of them tried being vegan/vegetarian for about a year, but I'm not sure of their positions on the matter, anymore, as they've gone back to eating regular meat and other animal products. They like sushi and cereal (kind of random fact, I know Tongue)

So, that's all that I can think of. I don't sew, knit, or crochet, though I plan to try one or all of those arts, in the future. For now I do just about everything else to get by.
thanks for reading Wink
10  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / French Club Fundraiser Crafts on: August 30, 2005 02:59:37 PM

I had to miss the first French club meeting of the year, today, and though I doubt that anyone is all that fussed about it, I'd like to come in next week with some fresh ideas.
Every year we have one fundraiser around Valentine's day, but we'd have more if we could come up with any really good ideas for things to sell. That's why I've come to you guys Wink.

So, please, if you have any good ideas for cheap, sell-able, cute, and French-inspired crafts that we could make as a group and sell during lunches, share your brilliance Cheesy
