21  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Tree Swap inspiration gallery- where I live trees look like... on: January 24, 2006 06:41:04 PM
So we had discussed this in the swap ideas thread, since there are people in our swap sending from all over the world and from all different climates.
Post a pic of the tree closest to you.. ie one you see often, from your window, on your street a park you visit etc.. It should be a current picture ideally one taken within a few days of posting. The idea is to get a snapshot of what trees all over the world look like right now.
I was going to wait to start this up till I had a pic to post.. but my computer just died  Sad
I'm in the process of trying to retrieve data from my hardrive and only using shared computers.. so no pics for me for a while... but I'd love to see all yours!

22  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Flakers on craftster on: January 12, 2006 04:31:54 PM
So I had someone in my CD swap- who communicated well, said she would be late, but don't worry she wasn't flaking-and then just stopped communicating and of course never sent the CD. I gave her negative, but saw she was still on Craftster so figured she would contact me at one point about what happened. I just checked up on her recently- to make sure her negative went through- and saw she now had anothe negative, but also saw she'd been online today. So I checked her posts and saw that she had been posting and posting projects. Somehow this just seems wrong. Should someone who flakes in swaps just blatantly post, as if they've done nothing wrong?? I feel tempted to post in her thread- where everyone is complimenting her work- and ask her why- if she clearly values Craftster- she's Ok with stealing from craftsters (which is what you're doing if you join a swap and don't recipricate)
Somehow I feel differently when people dissapear, cause I sort of understand that who knows what could be happening in their life and clearly Craftster in general isn't fitting into it any more. But to just flake on two swaps but continue to be on Craftster??!
23  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / The Tree swap is HERE!!!! ALL DONE! on: January 05, 2006 02:08:43 PM
The Tree swap has arrived!!
The premise of this swap is that although there are lots of leaf style motifs used, poor beautiful tree's aren't that common a motif. You will craft about 3 things for your partner with at least one large (time wise) item and at least one item needs to represent a full tree- not just a branch or leaf.
There are lots of beautiful ideas for inspiration in this thread:
Crafts can be anything, but do consider the tastes etc.. of your partner.

I'm going to state a number of rules here. I'm not mean or strict, but I'm currently having a terrible time with a swap I'm still running and so I wanted to make sure I state my expectations up front. I also think this is going to be a big swap and don't want to cut it off, but for that reason I need to be strict about communication.
YOU MUST PM me and your partner when you send. YOU MUST get a DC# unless you are shipping internationally- no exceptions. And YOU MUST PM me and your partner when you receive. Also you should post your receipt of the package in the gallery and thank your partner publicly- even if you can't take a pic.
These things are stated here in the rules of swapping (so you know I'm not just being silly and making them up Smiley ) https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=6553.0
If you don't think you can take the time to communicate with PM's with me and your partner and afford the extra 55cents for a DC#- then in my opinion you won't be able to commit to the requirements of this swap, so don't join.
Trust me I'm not mean.. it's just so hard to organize a swap when people don't communicate.
Also there is a very long crafting time for this swap so I expect people to send on time. If you are over a week late past the deadline and have NOT communicated well you will have late in your feedback. Past two weeks, you will have late in your feedback no matter what (but good communication will be noted). If you are past two weeks late with no communication you will automatically get negative feedback till you communicate and send.
I also suggest PMing your partner either a week before the deadline or before you send (if you're sending early) and to hold off sending till you hear back from them. Sometimes even great swappers and communicaters just dissappear and since this is a long crafting time we should make sure we keep track of that.
I also want to consider something else, but let me know if you don't think this is right. I'll match people up and PM you your partners name, but if you could resend them your info that would be wonderful. It's a lot of work to go through all the PM's to find people's info and cut and paste it and I think it's a great start to a swap to get in touch with your partner right at the start. If you have a issue with this let me know.
OK... now on with the fun!

24  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Where should I buy my home made Chistmas gifts? on: December 05, 2005 04:07:32 PM
Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm just starting my Christmas shopping and I've love to support Crafty Craftsters. Anyone have any great links, suggestions of who to buy my Christmas swag from?

25  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Christmas music CD Swap! on: November 23, 2005 11:52:23 AM
Lots of people have sent, so I thought I'd start a gallery. Post pics of cover art and you play lists here. If there are any songs on your CD that you'd never heard before that are a new favorite- let us know! It will be fun to see what people discover!

26  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Organizers please make sure newbies have in progress feedback on: November 16, 2005 07:27:19 PM
So I'm organizing a pretty big swap right now and in THREE cases a person has told me they don't have positive feedback for their first swap yet, but could give me proof their package was received, and when I checked up on it they had no feedback at all. This isn't shortly after the swap started cause it's after they completed their requirements. I know that sometimes feedback doesn't go through, but maybe we should start making a note of who is a newbie and actually check their feedback to make sure the in progress is there. We can't control the one swap at a time rule if organizers don't add the feedback comment right away and even when people are honest about it being their second swap- as these guys were for me- it adds confusion.
I'm going to figure out what swap they were in and PM those organizers about adding them, but I thought I'd just jump onto the pulpit and talk about it here too

27  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Christmas music mix CD swap SIGN UP CLOSED Send out by Nov 28th on: November 11, 2005 11:14:51 AM
Swap name: Christmas music swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: bobolink
Sign-up date range: Nov. 11 /05- Nov. 18 /05
Date to send item by: Nov. 28th
If anyone sends so late that their CD gets there after Christmas (barring serious unforseen post problems) they will get negative. They can make this up by sending a second CD of non holiday music and they're feedback to will change to positive with comments.

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Nope

Non-U.S. participants allowed? Yes, but I want to make every effort to pair people up by country so your music gets there by Christmas. If you live somewhere unusual- for this site- and don't think another person from nearby will be joining, maybe think twice before joining? That said overseas mail can sometimes be really fast.

All ages allowed? Or 18+? Of course, it's Christmas!!

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:
We will be sending a Christmas mix CD to our partners. Make sure to add a playlist and preferably a nice decorated case. Also you must send a Christmas card to your partner along with the package.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap:
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?
What kind of Christmas music do you own: Cute, classical, religious, other, all of the above?
What kind of Christmas music do you want to receive: Cute, classical, religious, other, mix?
What are your favorite Christmas motifs?:
Do you want your music as music files or MP3's?

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

Extra rules:
I will also require everyone who signs up to post in this thread. I will not add your name to the list till I see you have posted here, just so I can make sure you're on track with my updates.
Anyone who sends over 2 weeks late will have late in their feedback (along with good or poor communication)- and of course the risk of negative if their CD arrives too late.
Anyone flaked on may need to get a non- holiday CD for their swap angel package if it's too late to send a holiday one for Christmas, so be aware of that risk.
Oh and.. you have to love Christmas to join this swap... he he  Smiley

28  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Christmas mix CD swap? on: November 10, 2005 02:08:30 PM
I just got a great idea! (at least I think so  Wink )
What about a christmas music mix swap? We could put in our favorites and organize them in a fun way and send them along with a christmas card to our partner.
What do you guys think? We'd probably have to get started pretty quickly on it, so people would get it in time.
29  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Tree themed swap on: October 19, 2005 11:25:49 AM
I won't have time to do this for a bit- I've taken on way too much with swaps right now, but I was thinking that a tree swap would be fun. Tree motifs are really beautiful and seem to be a bit overlooked, I haven't seen many crafts made with them for a while. Leafs are more common and we could include those, but I really like the idea of crafts with full trees.
Any thoughts?
