6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Paypal for non US sellers - please help! on: April 04, 2006 08:13:33 PM
Im from Brazil, and have just finished my website for my handmade bags www.mambaatelier.com.br.
I dont have problems selling my stuff here in Brazil, people contact me and send me money by my bank account, but Im planning to sell internationally. Im considering using Paypal, as it seems the most secure payment system...
Is anyone here from outside US selling stuff internationally and using paypal? Id love to know how it works for you, non US!!! I read at their site they would send me a check (whenever I request it) with my payment (the money I receive from my costumers), but it will take 2 weeks to get here! Is it correct?
thank you!!!!! Wink
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / TUTORIAL - first pattern I designed myself!! warning, too many pictures!!! on: April 04, 2006 11:44:13 AM
hey you!
heres my tutorial for the bag, as I promissed a long time ago, (sorry) i posted here:
I dont speak english very well, so I posted loooots of pictures for you to understand it better, hope you like it.
Its kind of hard to make, Im still making some changes at the pattern, but it seems to work fine with me. Some steps may sound a little obscured or confused, but with the pieces of fabric in your hands its easier to understand, believe me.
Please ask me if youre having trouble to understand it!
I finished the english version (with my poor, poor english). Here we go:

This is the scheme for the pattern (the rounded rectangle is the lining):

1 Straps: cut 2 rectangles with 8,5 x 58 cm of the outer fabric
2 and 6 Botton: cut 2 rectangles with 8,5 x 50 cm, 1 of the outer fabric and 1 of the lining fabric
3 and 7 Top zipper part: cut 4 rectangles with 5,5 x 36 cm, 2 of the outer fabric and 2 of the lining fabric
4 cut 2 of these in the outer fabric
5 cut 2 of these in the outer fabric (see I have added some things for embelishment!)
8 and 9 Lining: cut 2 of these in the lining fabric (see I have added a pocket at one its a simple rectangle)

Step 1: The straps:

Just sew it with the right sides facing and then reverse it (shown in picture)

Step 2: The zipper (its for a 30 cm zipper):

There are a lot of great tutorials teaching how to do this (I learned it here at Crafster), here is one great ziper tutorial: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=10165.0
It must look like this after you attach the zipper at the rectangles (3 and 7)

Step 3:

Then you have to sew together parts 4 and 5, right sides facing, as you see at the picture. Then reverse it, to the right side. Dont forget to leave a small hole at the top of it, you youll use this to reverse the bag (youll see in the next pictures).

Step 4: Now the zipper and the botton:
You need to sew the parts 2 and 6 at the zipper set (you already made). Leave a little space unsewn at the beggining and the end of it (youll see why at the next step). Here is a picture of the process:

and you get this:

do it at the other side and youll get this circle:

Step 5: Now, sew the lining parts (8 and 9) at the lining of the circle.

why we left the space unsewn at the beggining and at the end:

now you have this:

Step 6: Do the same to the parts we sew together at step 3:
at the wrong side

see the right side:

youll have this:

see the hole? we youll reverse the bag through it:

Step 7: The rings:
atach the rings as you see at the picture (youll need 4 rings)

Here it is:

hope you liked it! and I really hope this tut works! please pm me if you have troubles with it!
thank you girls!

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Totes in traditional brazillian fabric! on: February 15, 2006 10:09:34 AM
Hi you all!
Long time since my last post, Ive been busy programing my web site and so... It doesnt have a version in english at the moment, but here is a sample of my work.
I made this with a very traditional brazillian fabric, called Chita. I used it for the lining and I cut some flowers of the fabric for the outside. I made tons of this, here are two of them.
Hope you like it!

10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Craft Place - What can a craft girl do with some wood and japanese mang? on: June 14, 2005 06:33:56 AM
Here is my first self made furniture.
I used to work for a furniture company (Im an architect) and one day I found some wood (in fact it looked like trash) behind a corner... I asked my boss if I could use it, and he said ok. I had the help of some of my workgroup members... cause a girl cant handle all that weight! But I did it! Take a look:

it is builded in 3 parts (please dont notice the mess under it). On the right side there are 5 lockers and on the left there is a rack for my magazines. I had to make anoher rack below it (too much stuff). And above the table (simple plain rectangle of wood).

I covered the table with japanese drawings (mang) and transparent plastic:

I love spending my afternoons in that place...
 Kiss bye!
