1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Superwash Merino/BFL Roving on: February 13, 2008 12:40:57 PM
I've been really busy with classes since the semester began, so I rewarded myself by playing with my new dyes. Can't wait to spin some of them up!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Felted Clogs on: November 11, 2007 12:02:46 AM

Pattern: Felted Clogs from Fibertrends, Mens size 11
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool Merino, 2 skeins Paprika and Black
Needles: US 13 Boye circular needle
Started: October 2007
Finished: November 2007

This pattern was great. Pretty easy to knit, as long as you remember to count! It was my first time using short rows and had no issues. I've been ambitious and plan to knit at least four pairs of these babies for Christmas gifts. Took me about 4.5 hours of knitting/seaming time, less if I wasn't trying to knit AND surf the web. Wink

Blogged here.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Finished Knits on: October 23, 2007 02:53:27 PM
A few are Christmas gifts, others I've just neglected to post.  Cheesy

Pattern: Skull Illusion Scarf from Ysolda
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft, 1/2 skein each of Black/White
Needles: US 8 Clover bamboo straights
Started: December 2006
Finished: September 2007

Very easy pattern, quick knit when I wasn't misplacing the project. Christmas present for my cousin. Blogged here.

Pattern: Counterpane Carpet Bag from Handknit Holidays
Yarn: Noro #95, 4 skeins
Needles: US 10 Clover bamboo straights
Started: January 2007
Finished: Knitting finished in May 2007 - finally got handles in August 2007

I love this pattern! For some reason mine doesn't 'poof' up as much as others that I've seen - and that was before blocking! Either way, still happy with the result. Just need to find something else to line it with. Blogged here.

Pattern: Silvers Sock Class
Yarn: Some type of Regia - hate the colorway.
Needles: US 3 (3.25mm) Clover bamboo DPNs
Started: August 2007
Finished: October 2007

Easy, well-written beginner sock pattern. My second time using it. Christmas present for 11 year old brother. Blogged here.

The bag/scarf pictures both link to a full view of the project. Thanks for looking!

4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Score! on: March 21, 2007 03:38:06 PM
Years ago my aunt was a knitter/spinner/weaver but has taken a break.

So for the past few years she has been throwing away the fleece of her goats! This year she offered to let me come help shear and if the fleece was usable - to take what I wanted home.

I believe the white is a pygora fleece, the other two are colored mohair. The white was from the 'baby' and my aunt said it was the best fleece from her yet!

The only disappointing thing was that I (stupidly) forgot the camera at the house when I left this morning and couldn't take any pictures of the process... Other than that, she loaned me her drum carder/hand combs and gave me two additional fleeces that she has been storing. I feel a little overwhelmed, but it should keep me busy for awhile!

A few more pictures of the others are up on Flickr.

It's that time again. Best day of the week, in my opinion! Wink

Caramel Temptation

85% Wool/15% Mohair
2-ply, bulky weight
4-ish oz.

Mostly caramel colored, with hints of dark chocolate brown and white mohair. Reminds me of ice cream!

Midnight photos aren't the best... but I'm impatient.

The roving -

Can't wait to see what everyone else has spun up!

Can't believe nobody has started this yet!

2 skiens, 130-ish yards total of Kool-aid dyed mill ends, 85% wool/15% mohair. Worsted to bulky weight.

Sorry about the bad desk pictures, weather has been poor and I wanted to post something for once. Wink

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / How big of difference.. on: July 12, 2006 03:03:52 AM
So, its late. I recieved a big box of yarn for a project earlier today - an afghan for my grandparents and was eager to get started. After casting on, doing the first few rows of the pattern.. I realized that something wasn't quite right.

Occasionally when knitting, I wrap the yarn around the wrong way - clockwise, and it should be counter clockwise? Not all stitches, but enough to notice.

My question is, should I be worried about it? The perfectionist inside me screams YES! Loudly enough that I already ripped out the afghan.. And I plan to make myself pay attention more in the future. But with other projects in progress, it makes me cry a little on the inside to start all over again.
