1  Re: Mug Rug and Mug Swap GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by WhistleFish on: February 27, 2019 04:24:04 PM
I was partnered with Acadian Driftwood and she put together an awesome package for me. Just look!

She had a friend who makes pottery so we exchanged handmade rugs (not made by us, but some very talented potters!) and the mug she chose for me is SO neat and it totally matches the awesome mug rug she made me. Her binding and straight lines put my rug to shame but it's okay...I've got something to aspire to now! Lol. And it's TWO SIDED!!!

Bonus...it even doubles as a battle ground for my daughter's little toys:

For extras she sent me some gourmet chocolates (which is simply perfect!). So far I've only tried the raspberry one which was amazing. I'm cherishing the others for a special occasion. Smiley

Thanks Acadian Driftwood for being a great partner! Grin

Class: Arithmancy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Flower Crown Pug
Brief Description:This pug ornament was originally supposed to have a bow on its head but I was inspired by the whole flower crown trend and decided to give it ago and doesn't she look cute and ready to take on the spring?
Project Picture:

Class: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Project Life Pages
Brief Description: For this class I used a "new-to-me" technique. Instead of buying Project Life cards I bought a digital scrapbook kit and made my own. It took a bit of figuring out to get the files on my iPad and how to incorporate different elements into my pages and adjust them as needed. My next goal? Don't get addicted into buying digital scrapbooking files. Roll Eyes
Project Picture:

Class: Flying
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Custom Pup Ornament
Brief Description: I almost didn't accept this order because I didn't know if I could pull it off. She had super fluffy fur. And gradient-type coloring. I didn't know if I could pull it off but I really wanted to challenge myself. I'm so glad I did because her recipient loved her so much she said she was almost in tears when she received her. I've never been asked to make a remembrance ornament yet and it was really special to me that I could make something that someone would cherish. It's a really good feeling as a crafter.

Class: History of Magic
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Birthday Hockey Game PL Pages
Brief Description: A craft that comes easily to me? Project Life of course! This layout was super fun to make because I had SUCH a great birthday it was so much fun to relive it while making these two pages.

GRYFFINDOR TOWER

"Once youve arrived inside Gryffindor Tower, come inside and be welcomed by the roaring fire, stuffed armchairs, and the great view we have from our windows. Our dormitories are reached by climbing the winding mahogany staircase, decorated with crimson and gold. As I said, there's plenty of gold around the tower. Our four-posters are covered with thick scarlet blankets (we have quite windy nights up in the towers) and are embroidered with gold. Gold chandeliers cast warm glows all around."

You guys!! I proposed this NEWT in 2015!! I am proud to say I finished it just a couple days before Christmas. Its finally done!! Ive been working on this baby on and off for the past couple years and its definitely been a labor of love. I dont even wanna think of how many hours it actually took me.

NEWT Subject: Charms
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Must Be Santa Advent Calendar
Project Page Link (if available): none yet
Brief Description: In this project I demonstrate all my different crafty charms: embroidery, applique, sequins, beading, and following the world's most extensive directions.
Project Picture:

Class: Charms
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Couples Christmas Ornament
Brief Description: For my go-to craft I made another felt ornament. A girl had ordered dog ornaments for her pet loving friends but there was a couple who didnt have pets so she asked if I could come up with a Couples Ornament and I think it turned out pretty darn cute!
Project Picture:

Class: DADA
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Dobby Christmas Card
Brief Description: For the HPC Card Exchange I did a digital drawing and created a card design on my iPad, printed it out, and made my own cards. I based the drawing and card idea off a picture I saw online so it wasnt 100% all from my mind but I think it definitely turned out cute! Hope you guys who received one enjoyed it!
Project Picture:

Class: Herbology
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mini Valentines Embroidery Hoops
Brief Description: Two things that go together? How about these cute little 1.5in embroidery hoops? I actually made 4-5 but didnt get a picture of all of them together. Ugh.
Project Picture:

Class: January Detention
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Valentines Countdown Calendar
Brief Description: I started this in December and it has been one of those projects that just seemed to take forever. I made up the patterns and there were a couple parts that I had to tear out. And redo. And tear out and redo again. UGH.

DETAILS OF SWAP:

You have around three weeks crafting time to complete this swap.

This swap consists of TWO components:
ONE: Craft your partner a mug rug!
- Mug rugs can vary in size and shape but should be roughly around 5 x 8.
- Any techniques can be usedpatchwork, embroidered, knit, etc. but keep in mind that the rug should be able to absorb a bit of moisture and protect surfaces from warm drinks.

TWO: Fill a mug (or other vessel) with small goodies!

- This mug (or vessel) does NOT have to be handmade and can most definitely be store bought.
- The mug does NOT have to match your mug rug. We dont want to limit your creativity.
- Goodies should be small enough to fit into mug and inexpensive. (Think: Coffee sample, tea bags, small bit of chocolate or biscuits, stickers, ect.)
- In the Swap Idea thread some people expressed their desire to NOT receive a mug, in that case I will do my best to match partners who want mugs/dont want mugs.
- Suggestions for alternate vessels have been: Zipper pouch, Drawstring bag, Mini bucket/basket/bowl, Japanese Knot Bag or Bento Bag, Tea-type tin. Again, this item DOES NOT have to be crafted. This is supposed to be a light, fun, quick swap.
- If you are choosing something other than a mug please communicate with your partner to make sure you are both on the same page with any alternate vessel. (Or you may choose to just swap mug rugs with no extras!)

If you want to participate, please PM the organizer, Whistlefish, with the "Mug Rug Swap" in the subject line.
