11  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Two little witches (or pirates, or faeries, or dresses for ren faire...) on: November 04, 2012 04:44:43 PM
For Halloween my daughters wanted to be witches. I figured I could sew them myself, save money and make them multipurpose and durable!

My daughters wearing them on Halloween:

I chose black for the base and wanted to second color to be something that could be used for ren faire and our Midsummer faerie event. I thought red crushed velvet would be my best bet.

I am still new to sewing, so it was an interesting project to undertake.

But the girls loved them and they got a bunch of compliments. I also have black and red faerie wings too, but they really wanted to be witches. So they ended up being a 4-in-1 costumes! (Yay!)

12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The 10th Doctor Allons-y! on: August 24, 2012 01:22:27 PM
I made this for the Embroidery Hoopla Swap - The Wordy Round for my partner Tarmine626.

It was super fun to make and I love how he turned out.  Cheesy
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Hello Kitty! on: July 28, 2012 09:20:24 PM
This is what I worked on today. My little girls wanted to expand on their hoopla wall, so I made them 4 new ones this weekend.

These are the two newest.  Cheesy

My girls love to read (or be read to) and take pictures with mommy's camera.

They are tickled pink. And so am I.

14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Pegi and Nico on: July 27, 2012 11:03:48 AM
Pegasus and Unicorn, aka Pegi and Nico.

They are going on my little K and little M's hoopla wall tonight!
15  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Good Women Quote on: July 17, 2012 06:03:14 PM
The air conditioner broke at work today, so I got to embroider at my desk for the majority of my day.  Grin Good thing I always bring it with me!

It reads:

Here's to good women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them

Thanks for looking!
16  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / 99 problems on: July 15, 2012 03:37:39 PM
I finished this today and wanted to share.  Cheesy

I've seen a lot of memes starting out with "I got 99 problems.." and then finishing off with something cute or witty.

My friend, Krista, posted this quote on facebook a little while back and I knew I had to turn it into a hoopla.

I really love how it turned out.

  Grin

Thanks for looking!

My girls love this time of year. They are the best firefly catchers on Earth. They'll have like 10 fireflies in their hands and 4 crawling up their arms at a time. That is what inspired me to make this hoopla.

Let me first state how hard it is to get a child to stop playing outside to take a picture of their mother doing embroidery.

This is the only picture not awkwardly taken by me:

I tried to get a better action shot:

The rest of my photos were mostly the back of my head or the ground...

Here is my hoopla the next day before I 'finished' it:

A close up of a happy glow worm:

Aaaand finished!

I had to go inside to use the hot glue gun, and I started it inside on my light table, but the rest of it was completed outside watching my children play! It was really fun to do, and it was nice to put one of my favorite quotes down on fabric! I am going to make another one later this month, as my friend has asked for one for her birthday.  Grin

Thanks for looking!
18  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Princess Zelda Monochrome Half Cross Stitch on: May 05, 2012 04:36:00 PM

I need to think of a way to frame it or finish the edges.  Huh But it turned out really well.  Grin
19  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Urban Threads Steampunk Bacon Kitty on: May 05, 2012 04:12:17 PM

I got this pattern off of Urban Threads and made it for my little girl's room. Smiley It was fun to do!
20  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 73 ENTRIES / Old Book in Den Drawer on: April 02, 2012 01:53:03 PM
I bought this book at a Friends of the Library book sale a few months back. Threw it in the den drawer thinking I would use it to make heart shaped confetti for Valentine's Day or such.

I took off the dust jacket. (Which was super, super glued onto the book.)

Cut the pages free from the cover.

Then I started to fold the pages.

It got harder the further into the book I got. I ended up cutting it in half at the 202 page mark...

Then I duct taped the book and made two side panels from duct tape.

And made a clutch purse from the cover.

I ended up with two book 'trees' and a cool little purse.

I decorated the trees for the 4th of July... Maybe I'll change up the ribbon to coordinate with each passing holiday.  Grin

I saw the book trees in a craft magazine and I love working with duct tape (I usually make flowers). It was really fun to join in on the challenge!
