1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Yet Another Poncho on: September 02, 2004 09:09:09 PM
When the 14 y/o declared after the 1st day of school "If I don't have a poncho to wear skating on Friday I'll DIE, " I decided that my crocheting skill was actually a life saver & not just a hobby. So, here's my 1st attempt. It took me 2 1/2 days to work up the whole thing. I kind of like it - she loves it (plus now she won't die) - I'd like to make another & fine tune it a bit.
The pattern I used was a simple granny:

This particular pattern has a lot of options which I really liked. I used worsted weight Red Heart acrylic in pink & cream (it looks yellow in the pic-that's just the camera) & an I hook. I wanted to put fringe on it but she said "NO!" so here's the unfringed version.

and one more with the ever lovely & always photogenic model (who, thankfully, will live to see another day)

2  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / 1st Time Felting on: August 23, 2004 06:30:42 PM
I've been reading everyone's felting posts & finally decided to try it. My sis wanted a pair of lime mittens but the wool I bought was 3 ply instead of 4 ply & they were way too small for me to felt for her. The 8 y/o saw them without fingers & decided that they were *cool*. Dig it, I crocheted a *cool* thing  Cool. Dang, I think I like that better than the durn gloves Cheesy Anywhoo, I had crocheted a basic mitten pattern using a J Hook but stopped before I did the thumb & fingers. This is the pattern I used. I Worked to Row 20 then did 8 more rows even.

After that, I felted them in the kitchen sink using hot H20 & Dawn dishwashing liquid. I think next time I will use Ivory soap flakes as I heard they work better. The Dawn worked well but it was a touch "slimy" I dried them overnight & *voila* here they are (BTW, notice the green in his hair. I thought it matched the gloves perfectly-it started the summer as blue but the chlorine turned it lime  Roll Eyes )
