21  Lightswitch cover - birdie style! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by jMi on: April 14, 2008 09:45:31 AM
I love mod podge and paper... the possibilites are endless!! Smiley I made this for the bird swap, and I absolutely love the results! You can't see because they aren't in the picture, but I painted the nails black to match.

I'm going to make one for my step son as well (a boyish one, though)

22  Quilted bird bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by jMi on: April 14, 2008 09:43:28 AM
I made this for Arwena for the bird swap Smiley I used two of her favorite colors- pink and brown, and tried to make a quilted look. I didn't actually quilt it though because I didn't want the bag to be very heavy. It's interfaced, and the bird on the front is attached with fusible webbing and then stitched on Smiley

I'm pretty pleased with the results, except for the stitching on the beak which made me think he looks like a duck not a bird. But that might just be me lol

23  Embroidered bird tote! in Needlework: Completed Projects by jMi on: April 14, 2008 09:40:52 AM
This tote was my first embroidery project (yay! It was so much fun too!) and a present for my buddy, Kategirl! It was based off of something from her wists, so I take absolutely NO CREDIT for the design but I can't find the picture I based it off of now Sad Please, if you know which this came from, PM me or post the link here so I can give the proper credit!!  Grin

The tote was hand made be me, after I embroidered the canvas. This was probably the most rewarding bag I have ever made. I am STILL so happy with it!!

I didn't get a picture of the inside- but it's a green and purple polka dot Smiley

What do you guys think, should I keep trying to embroider? lol!

This needle roll was a Christmas present for our very own, Kategirl! Cheesy

This was actually based off of something on her wists at the time (the fabric), and she had wanted a roll so ta-da! Cheesy

I think she was happy with it! Smiley

The back opened up

Stuffed (with my own things)

25  Bright and cheery bird knitting needle roll! in Knitting: Completed Projects by jMi on: April 14, 2008 09:27:36 AM
I made this cute little knitting needle roll recently for the Bird Swap- it was a ton of fun to make, I think mostly because of how bright and cheery the fabric was!

Fabric closeup because it's just way too cute!

28  Cape Hatteras (North Carolina) Lighthouse in CHALLENGE 25 ENTRIES by jMi on: March 05, 2008 07:52:49 AM
So technically I am living in Virginia Beach, Virginia... but this challenge really left a lot of options open for me (lucky me!).
a) I am actually FROM NJ ... but I wasn't really inspired by my old town (sorry Jersey! Wink)
b) If you know the VB area, you know we're actually part of an area called Hampton Roads so we have 7 cities that we're part of and really could use
c) We're located so close to North Carolina, we might as well be in North Carolina.

I went with option c, but not really for the locality. I love the lighthouses that are in the area. There are some right in the city here, but the one I find my self most attracted to is the Cape Hatteras, NC lighthouse. It's a black and white striped lighthouse that actually had to be moved a few years ago because of beach erosion. It was successfully moved and protected from the beach it had been on since the late 1800's!

The lighthouse was actually built in Virginia and brought to North Carolina in the 1800's, so again it does tie the history of both states together.

If you want to read more about the history of this beautiful piece of art please visit this website!

And now onto my entry! Smiley

It measures approx 11in x 16in

I got a new sewing machine the other day and this is my first project on it (very pleased with the machine, by the way!)

I started by copying a picture of the lighthouse I found online, here is my drawing:

Here is my completed project. It's an appliqud/quilted wallhanging. There is a blue polka-dotted ribbon threaded through the top to hang it but I accidentally cut it out of the picture lol  Embarrassed

A close up to show that I actually layer the background fabrics because I wanted it to be funky and modern looking, not like a hokey "bathroom decor" lighthouse wallhanging. The front fabric is sheer and sparkley blue flower fabric. The fabric behind it is blue leopard print (thanks alwaysinmyroom!!)

I have to say I love the way it came out... this is one of the few times my project came out exactly how I pictured it! Now I just need to get a hang of the speed of my new machine and I'll be set! I'd love to hear what everyone thinks! Cheesy

29  It's never too early for a beach bag! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by jMi on: February 11, 2008 11:46:54 AM
..okay, so maybe it is Wink
But my sister's friend wanted me to make her a beach bag using a fabric I had previously used for one of my sister's bags.

So I came up with this:

I reinforced the bottom, and wanted to break up the pattern so i used some of the interior fabric to do so

Inside, there are 3 pockets- one large one (pictured), with a Velcro closure, and two smaller ones that aren't pictured and there is a clasp for her to attach the zippered coin purse she requested or her keys (have to take keys into consideration at the beach!) to the bag.

I pretty much love this bag- took longer than I thought it would but I think that was because I figured things out as I went along Smiley

Comments appreciated!

The zippered pouch attached to the clasp and the larger pocket

The pouch unattached

30  WIP painting, 2 dancers in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by jMi on: January 24, 2008 10:42:31 AM
I have been working on this painting for months! I just keep forgetting about it and then pulling it out every once in awhile to work on it- I'd really love to finish it soon so I'm posting it as a WIP in here for motivation to finish the darn thing!

It's undone (obviously) and already hanging in my bedroom lol

Let me know what you guys think! Smiley

(the original image I based this off of is from a coloring book, alterations have been made however)

Motivate me please! Cheesy
