221  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: Random botches on: May 20, 2005 05:04:24 AM
I'm a big horror fan and when I can go to CthulhuLive games, which are horror LARPs based on the works of writer HP Lovecraft.  I'm going to attend the Origins gaming convention next month and was thinking about trying out the NERO events there.  You know, I'm going to PM you with the rest of my message, because I think we've just gotten way off topic here!

Just the other day i decided i was going to shorten  some jogging pants I got for Xmas a few years ago.  I had been feeling good about it, as it was something I had wanted to do forever(my legs are short!!), so I cut the pants to the right length and started up the  iron so I could have nice straight cuffs.  So then I put the iron down on the pants and.. what thats smell? Doh- burning plastic.. the pants are made out of nylon or something funky like that.. and i had the iron up to the highest setting.. I did manage to salvage the pants but I have a twistd up crunkly part where I melted the fabric... I felt pretty dumb..

Oh, and what kind of LARP did you go to Conley?  glad to hear I'm not the only LARPer on the board!
223  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: I HEART WAL-MART! on: May 19, 2005 04:11:23 AM
the shirt makes me want to throw up (no offense, good sewing job..but I can't deal with Wal-mart)  I never go to Walmart, but then again I really never go anywhere but the thrift store cuz I'm poor.  Why is Wal-mart evil? oh..let me count the ways.. Lots of reasons.. One, they are the largest private sector employer in the US yet they can't even off their employees affordable health insurance...

I feel sick when i enter the store.. I feel like I'm in Dawn of the Dead, surrounded by bargain zombies...

I can't say any of the other chains are better, I knew someone that worked at Target and they were treated like crap too...

Ugh, I knew if I read this post I'd get sucked into standing on a pedestal and giving my 2 cents..
224  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Re: Zombie Birthday Party: Suggestions and Help? on: May 19, 2005 03:40:25 AM
zombie jello molds are good..especially when they are spiked with vodka...mmmm..brains... I mean uh, jello..

Maybe you could also get some zombie themed music to play..The soundstracks from all of the Return of the Living Dead movies are good. There is lots of good zombie party music out there!

Sounds like it will be a great party!
225  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Re: SNB-Great!! Frist Time knitter here... on: May 14, 2005 07:09:33 AM
I can't wait to get this book!  My hubby is gonna get it for me for my wedding anniversary gift!  (At my request!)
I picked up Idiots guide to Knitting and Crocheting at the library, but am still searching for wooden knitting needles to get started.  I might just have to buy 'em online!  Glad to see you excited about it, iamwiccan!

228  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: All About Felting on: May 10, 2005 02:47:27 AM
I don't know if it was true felting, but I made diaper covers out of felting old sweaters (the instructions for which I found online). I picked up some cheapie 100% wool sweaters, just washed it and then threw it in the dryer on high.  It shrunk and seemed to felt, very easy!  This might not be the way to go if you are looking for precise results, but it worked fine for my purposes
