1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Mini Canvases - Art Abandonment on: November 05, 2013 08:02:49 AM
I recently learned about the Art Abandonment movement (from Craftster peeps, I think...) and decided I wanted to give it a try. I found these mini canvases at Michael's and though I'd see what kind of mess I could make out of them Smiley

I've only left one behind, so far, but I have more in the works. Two ready to go now, just trying to decide when and where! Smiley

Here's the first one...bottle cap for size reference only...

It was left in a package, like so, complete with an email address set up specifically for this little project:

Here is another autumn-inspired painting...this one is on an ATC-sized cardstock.

And this one will go somewhat closer to December...it was inspired by a box of vintage wrapping paper I found (again, bottle cap just for size reference...I don't think someone would appreciate that in their package, unless they were a crafty soul) Smiley

As always, thanks for looking!!
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / First Attempt at Painting! on: October 25, 2013 10:48:10 AM
A couple friends and I signed up for a Wine and Canvas painting session - it was so much fun! The painting we selected was a little more challenging for someone who has never picked up a paint brush, but I managed! I am pretty darn happy with how it turned out, except for that tree in the front...it's really bothering me, but I'm afraid if I try to fix it, I'll just end up ruining the painting!

Here are a couple in-progress pics...I think I'm hooked now...

And here is the finished painting! Smiley Thanks for looking!!
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Chunky House Addiction on: October 10, 2013 07:12:21 AM
I participated in the Halloween/October Holidays edition of the Chunky House Swap this time around - so much fun!! I think I'm addicted to making them now, so here are the one's I've made so far.

This was made for my friend after she saw the houses I made for the swap - her birthday is coming up, and we're both big fans of E. A. Poe, so I wanted to incorporate that in her house. I called this one "The Oval Portrait" based on one of his short stories.

The back...

This is the house I made for coconutbells in the swap...this was made based off of a Victorian-era ghost story I read online, namely this passage:
She started and stopped short, for at that moment, a long-drawn shriek, as of someone in peril, the very shriek she had heard before, rung through the castle. Again and again it rose; died down; and rose again.

Edith staggered against the wall; she trembled so she could not stand. But her husband, who should have been there to support her, was gone. At the first sound of the awful cry, he had rushed from the room; and as Edith pressed her hand to her heart, she heard his fast receding steps echoing in the distance.

She was left alone, to meet the coming horror, whatever it might be

That's good old Edith peeking out the window...and I incorporated a great picture of Alexander the Seer - only he knows why Edith is terrified!! MUAAHAHAHAHAAA!!

And here is the house I made for irid3sc3nt - she stated she liked toads, skeletons, crows/ravens, and vintage Halloween...

I loved the picture of the toad I found - he definitely needed a great hat for Halloween. The Skeleton sticker was one I'd been hoarding for a while and decided this was the perfect project Smiley The tree is made from 12g or 14g wire, wrapped in brown floral tape - it makes the perfect bark! The little black crow button is from a vintage lot I bought a while back.

Thanks for looking Smiley
4  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Haunted Halloween Birdhouse on: October 22, 2012 10:27:48 AM
I've been wanting to make one of these for a while now, and figured the October Holiday OTT swap was a good opportunity! Since my partner already received and posted pics in the gallery, I figured I'd share it over here Smiley

I definitely plan on making more of these types of things - it was so fun to add all the little details! I actually had a request to make one for a girl I work with - she wants it extra spooky Cheesy

One side features a vampire-themed cemetery scene...

The other side (my favorite!) features another cemetery scene, and a spooky old tree!

Here's the back; a little tame but I like the background paper. I used a silver glitter pen on the swirls to add a little sumthin'-sumthin' Wink

Here's the top...the text reads: listen to the night broken and halting

And here's the front. I struggled with this because I really wanted to incorporate a creepy black bird, but all of them I had handy put it over the size limit for the swap. So, Mr. Skelly will have to do!

Thanks for looking! Smiley
5  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / Free Label for Specimen Jars on: September 26, 2010 06:12:15 PM
I know there are some free ones on other sites which are already printed, but I thought I'd create a blank one to play around with. I was pretty pleased with how it came out (by no means am I a pro at this, but for my first attempt at a parchment like paper, I thought it wasn't terrible). Feel free to use it as you'd like. It's got some blood splatters and a bloody fingerprint...

Here is a blank one -

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Onesie (r) Cake - My First Shaped/Theme Cake on: March 30, 2010 04:20:01 PM
There is most definitely something in the water at work because in my department alone we've had three pregnancies, and countless others on my floor (I am avoiding this water at all costs right now!)

This cake was for the first of three showers we will be planning...the mommy-to-be didn't like girly-girl pink, so I was trying to avoid it as much as I could. I settled on these colors, mostly because they made me think of spring, and were just girly enough to pass her approval Cheesy I also made a 2nd square-shaped cake since we've got quite a few people to feed...that one didn't turn out as well - I had a heck of a time trying to think of how to decorate it!

The sides were terrible looking, so I trimmed it with some wide sheer ribbon, which ended up looking nice. The freehanded "fly lines" were a last minute decision - the cake just looked nekked without something!

Be gentle - it's my first try with making a shaped cake - it went over like gangbusters though!!!

7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Sweet oven mitts on: November 18, 2007 01:59:45 PM
I am so excited about these...this is the first project using my sewing machine and "expensive" fabric  Grin (non-wally world fabric, that is...you know, good stuff!)

These are part of my cousin's birthday present - the other part is an apron which I plan on starting this week (needs to be done by Thanksgiving...but I'm not expecting it to take too long!) She turns 17 on Tuesday and loves cooking. *squee!!!*

Here is a close-up of the cupcake fabric...isn't it yummy?!
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Prayer Beads/Chaplets on: March 19, 2007 11:27:40 AM
I have no idea what even motivated me to make these - I suppose I could call it divine intervention if I wanted to...LOL

I made a couple prayer chaplets (similar to a rosary, but usually dedicated to a specific saint or religious icon; mostly used by Catholics) for my family and a friend of mine...Both are made using Swarovski crystals and sterling silver findings.

This is a St. Gerard chaplet. He is the patron saint of expectant mothers and those wishing to conceive...my friend has been married for three years and has had a lot of difficulties getting preggers. I made this in hopes it can give her a little hope and peace of mind. Medal is of St. Gerard, and reads "Pray for us" on the back.

This is a Peace Chaplet. It is a grouping of 21 beads (seven groups of three), a patar bead (the large crystal) and a medal of Our Lady of Medugorje, and reads "Regina pacis, ora pro nobis" (Queen of Peace, pray for us) on the back. I made it for my grandmother in her favorite color - blue.
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Some cards I made the other night... on: May 04, 2005 11:58:19 AM
I hate buying cards in the store...they are all so dumb and I can never find anything I like. So, I decided to make my own.

This was a birthday card I made...the body of the butterfly was beaded by hand.

This was for some friends of ours who just had a baby...

This was another birthday card...the necklace was beaded by hand, and I also made the earrings. It was for my cousin who just turned 16, and she loved it!

Just wanted to share...thanks for looking!!
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / First project post...yay! on: May 04, 2005 11:52:48 AM
I recently came across this site and I already have about 3 pages full of projects on my to-do list! DH will be so thrilled Wink

I've been dabbling in the wire/bead thing for a few months now, but never really made anything worth while...until the other night! I found some really cool beads at Wal-Mart for $1.88...With my trusty wire in hand, I started bending and twisting, and here's the result!

They aren't perfect, I know, but I've already had a couple people offer to buy them right off my ears!!!!
